Will they be used for only Amma devotees and to repair only Amma's buildings affected by the flood? Dear Anamika ~ Swami Dyamrita has said that funds donated to the Amma site for the tsunami victims are going to feed and house in Her technical college the approximately 10,000 people in Her area who were devastated by the tsunami. Here is information from an email that he sent out: "I have been getting many emails regarding the disaster after the Tsunami hit India. Needless to say Amma is in the midst of serving the villagers. She is also directing all the volunteer efforts (the only one that is available to the villagers, which are the worst hit people in Kerala) There are 6 AIMS ambulances going around and also some mobile medical clinics administering the needs of the disaster victims. The extent of the disaster is yet to be known. Many people from the village are still missing. 15,000 villagers have been housed at the Engineering College in Vallikavu. The residents of the ashram foregoing food and sleep are serving them. Even though the water has receded, many villagers do not know where to go, for their houses has been completely washed away. There is also the looming danger of yet another Tsunami. Brahmacharis and devotees are also serving in the other disaster stricken areas like Chennai, Kanyakumari and other parts in India. Regarding the relief efforts a special fund is being set up here in the U.S according to the wishes of many who want to do contribute in any way that they can. I talked to Dr. Prem from the AIMS hospital. His opinion is that we send whatever medical supplies we can for disaster relief. This will include Antibiotics, iv tubes, and disaster supplies like the first aid kits etc. But he once again reiterated that if we donate money rather than in kind, this can be used either for medicine or rebuilding homes, wherever necessary. The devotees in California have pledged to rebuild the Parayakadavu village surrounding Amritapuri." If you wish to donate to Amma's disaster relief fund, please make a check payable to the Amma Center, and mail to P.O. Box 4820, Santa Fe, NM 87502. Please indicate that this check is for the Relief Fund by indicating so in the memo section of the check.
