Guest guest
The first person in prison to whom I wrote in a tentative start to what is now Circle of Love Inside was Carolyn King. As I was researching prison correspondence programs run by other groups and trying to figure out how Amma devotees could do this seva, I saw a note from Carolyn King posted on a very old-fashioned website filled with prisoner's requests for mail. Carol's message said that her father and grandfather had recently died within days of each other, leaving her with no family outside prison walls. She wrote that she had not had a visitor in years and that she did not want to die in prison alone. She wanted people to write to her, to befriend her, possibly even to visit her. The notes that accompanied her message said that Carol was on Death Row in Muncy, PA. How could I turn away from such a simple plea. I wrote to her. In the ensuing months I found others who also write to her. And, in answer to Carol's prayer, Kalika (Lauren) Lee visited her and has continued to visit her. Carol writes back. In a recent letter to her I asked her, if she could do anything in her lifetime to change the world for the better, what would it be. Her reply was "Wow! That is an awesome questions you asked me. The only change I would make is for everyone to see each other as one one race, the human race, and for there t o be love, unconditional love. And with this done everything else I believe would take care of itself." We rejoice with Carol that she has been granted a new trial in a different county this coming summer.
