Dear Sara,

Seems as though folks are quick to misunderstand your inquiry.

Ran! what are you doing giving this woman such a hard time! Her

question has nothing to do with questions of convention as you imply.

As far as i can tell (pehaps i am wrong here) she just loves amma's

locks and wants more hair poetry. Well so do i so Get off her back

already!

Sara of her hair i know a few things only. One nice bit is that

back in the day when visitors were few and she ambled about the ashram

much more freely she would wear it all down after washer until it

dried... there are a few lovely pictures of this. once it dried i

suppose it went up into the bun as this is the more customary way to

go for women in india...long flowing hair on a young lady being

considered sort of provocative out-of-doors.

Om Vyoma Kesyai Namaha!

Praises to She who has the heavens as her hair!

bb.
