The Mata Amritanandamayi Math has urged the Government to give due importance to the feelings of the local villagers. In a statement here today, Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, vice-chairman, Mata Amritanandamayi Math, said it would be unwise to think that tsunami rehabilitation could be smoothly implemented without the goodwill and cooperation of the villagers. He noted that that the Dhivara Sabha and the local fishermen community had several grievances and anxieties on various issues about tsunami relief and rehabilitation. In response to a news item in this paper on April 5, Swami Puri said that the Math had not yet received any official intimation regarding construction of houses at three contentious wards at Alappad panchayat in Kollam. However, the district administration had on Tuesday handed over the final plan for the construction of houses in the 4th, 5th and 6th wards of Alappad panchayats according to existing the list of beneficiaries approved by the Government.
