Guest guest
As some of you may know, it is also traditional among Native Americans to give away valuable things on days of importance. For instance, when someone is married, the family gives away mony items. When a child dances in a particular style before the community for the first time in full regalia--a little like the arangetram--the family will give away items. When other important rituals are done, as was true in ancient times and today with vedic rituals, gifts are given. It is just so with Native Americans. And when someone dies, regardless of the cause of death, in memory of that person, the family has a giveaway. Sometimes if the family is very poor, others will contribute to the giveaway. A family from the Standing Rock Reservation would like to give away clean children's clothing, books and toys for their memorial giveaway. A gift for the giveaway will help the other families on the reservation and their children. Here is the request I received. "Your offer to send children's books, toys and clothing is very timely for the June 12th Giveaway for Woody's sister's two sons who have committed suicide. Her Name and address are: Francine Jensen P.O.Box 356 Mc Laughlin, SD 57642 The message continues about Francine: "She is aware of AMMA as Woody had shared some of the literature I've sent. She is hungry to read anything spiritual. I've sent a lot of self-help and family oriented materials from my career as a school counselor. She is soooo appreciative of reading material. Knowing she had strong traditional faith along with Christian beliefs I had only mentioned AMMA as my teacher. Just yesterday She explained that she understood about AMMA...and truthfully she looks a lot like AMMA. PERHAPS, I will bring her to Albuquerque where she could see AMMA for a darshan " If you are able to put some children's items in good condition in the mail to Francine, blessings to you! I have a number of Amma books from Vaishnavi's estate which I am unable to donate to prisoners so I will send them to Francine. In Amma's love, Aikya
