At any

need guidance on where to begin. Advice?

Dear Kristie ~ it sounds to me like you have already begun. Reading about

Amma, watching videos about her, learning more about her ... these are all

good. I would also highly recommend any of the books from the "Awaken Chiilden"

series. These are stories which capture Amma's direct words and actions, and so

it is as if she is talking right to you. Also, Amma recommends meditation.

Since you will only be there a short time, you probably won't be able to ask

her for a mantra this year, but she has taught a technique called Ma Om

meditation, where you basically use the Ma Om as a kind of mantra. There is a

tape (or cd) plus a video on Amma's website where you can see what these are

about and order one or both if you like. I have the tape, and it is Swami

Amtriaswarupananda ("Big Swami") describing the technique. His voice is so

melodious and wonderful, you just get carried away.

Bhajan tapes (cds) that you can listen to while you work or in your car are

great too. There is one where Mother sings all the songs in English, a rarity,

but they are all wonderful. I would especially like to recommend the

Bhajanamritam ~ Volume 8 tape/cd because it has the Arati and Closing Prayers

for

puja on it, and you could easily incorporate this into any worship you are

doing at your altar. It also has two of my favorite bhajans ~ "Take Me Away" and

"The Bee of My Mind."

Hope this helps. Jai Ma ~ Linda
