Anyway, I really like this quotation of Lex Hixon, speaking about Sri Ramakrishna: "We do not claim anything. We don't want to become sectarians who insist that our guru is the satguru in charge of the entire world process. We know too many people who think that way exclusively. In the case of Sri Ramakrishna, we feel that he is the sarva dharma swarupa, the essence of all dharmas. This is not exclusive. As Sri Ramakrishna says, the only guru is akhanda satchidananda, indivisible being, consciousness and bliss. That guru alone is operating through all dharmas, through all sacred traditions, and the awakening that proceeds uniquely from each one...The mystery of avatara, or Divine Descent, is a secret inner intuition for those of us who are initiated. It is not a creed- We cannot insist that people believe Sri Ramakrishna is an avatar, because he never insisted. When you receive the initiation, you feel -this mystery inwardly."... Dear Iswari, Where in the world is Iswari (as in "where in the world is Carmen Sandiego"). Are you there yet? In mid-air? Still in the U.S., but on the way? See how curious I am...I especialy want to know about the air flight as this would be the biggest barrier for me, since I am totally phobic about flying. I loved what you said about Mother coming in unexpected forms; from reading the Chandi, I have also learned that She comes in many forms. Even on Mother's own store catalog, under the greeting card pages, there is a card with a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe. One of my favorite passages from the Chandi: "The Mother of Enlightenment pervades the heavens; the Mother of Enlightenment pervades the atmosphere; the Mother of Elightenment pervaded Mother and Father and child. All Gods of the Universe are pervaded by the Mother, the five forms of living beings, all Life. The Mother of Enlightenment, She is to be known" Here is one of my other favorites: "You are the word of praise by which we are singing; you are all creation existing as the mouth of the universe." I really liked the quote about Ramakrishna ~ it was esentially the same thing that the swami in "River of Love" said. This is a paraphrase: Amma does not try to make anybody leave their own religion. She accepts all religions and Her darshan and Love give people the desire and strength to practice their chosen form of spirituality with more devotion. She doesn't want to convert anyone; She only wants to give." And there was a beautiful segment where Amma was giving darshan to one of St. Theresa's nuns.
