There is now a metal detector at the entrance to the temple, plus

numerous police officers, searching everyone's bags. It's very

strange, although I certainly understand the reason for it (I'm not

sure how they'll guard the bhajan hall, since it's an open structure).

Also, there was a funeral and cremation here on Monday night. I'm not

sure if this made it onto Amritapuri.org, but a Dutch boy and his

mother were en route from the ashram to the Cochin airport to return

to Holland when they met with an accident. The mother was only

slightly injured, while the boy died, apparently only moments after

crying for Amma, because he missed her! It was heartbreaking, yet also

I'm sure quite a blessing for the boy that Amma presided over the

funeral rites. Amma said that the boy has merged with God, so I'm not

sad for him, but I feel deeply for the pain his mother and aunt (who

was also here) must be experiencing at this time. I don't know their

names (Arun or anyone else here, do you know?), but lets please keep

this family in our prayers.

Dear Iswari:

It gives me goose bumps that your are in India with Ammachi.

Thank you for the report.

The Dutch boy appears to have had only a tiny bit of karma to work

out. Once he burned off all of his negative karma (in his very short

incarnation) he left the body and merged with the absolute.

Amma said he attained so why should I doubt it. The parents with

proper understanding could be happy for him.

With Love,

Metal Detectors Installed at Ashram

[picture caption: devotees are being checked when entering into the temple]

It is the wish of Amma's devotees and disciples to increase security

around Amma. After discussions between the Ashram's Board of Trustees,

the police have installed metal detectors at the entrances to the

temple.

The detectors only slightly slow the flow of traffic into the temple,

and the devotees are happy to put up with the small inconvenience. It

is clear that everyone just wants Amma to be safe.

During darshan, many devotees have been breaking down in tears as they

tell Amma how upset they were when they heard about the attack.

There is also a uniformed security presence throughout the ashram now,

as well as uniformed and plainclothes police officers.

"Amma is the most precious treasure of the world," one brahmachari

said. "It is our duty to protect her."
