Of course this is impossible, because as Amritavarshini said about herself, I would be another corpse floating in the water. The need is to do SOMETHING to help in this emergency situation.. I think most of us feel that way. I think we feel as Mother says, one hand caressing the other injured hand. So we do what we can. Dear Prasadini ~ I really believe what you say here, in terms of feeling the need to help in some practical way. For many of us, it may be making a contribution, and now we have the ability to make it where we feel it has the best chance of being well used (to Amma's Katrina Relief efforts). I am so far behind on the digests because over this Labor Day weekend I have been involved in an art fair, our group's Art Fair in Big Ditch Park. It's been a good weekend, lovely weather, and the juxtaposition of people sauntering through the park looking at art and fine crafts with the throngs in the various domes or in the water, or on the roofs is a huge exercise in contradiction. Yet, for me, it was also an opportunity. Yesterday, I made $33 to contribute to hurricane relief by setting up a place for children to make their own jewelry ($1 for a bracelet; $2 for a necklace). Today, before I got sick and had to come home, I sold some of my own jewelry, and I have a pledge on my table that 20% of the proceeds will go to hurricane relief. I am not saying this to get any kudos or recognition, but just as an example of how we can, in living our own individual lives, doing whatever we do, figure out ways to help. This is part of the Creative Consciousness we are born with and that travels with us from one life to another. Perhaps in another life, we have suffered; some of us are suffering even now, yet still we can find ways to help. I am also going to take Swami Dayamrita's letter to my satsang this week, small though it be, to see if anyone feels moved to help in some way. Rather than being worried that sharing what we are doing is flaunting our ego (ego, begone, I say!), it is a way of sharing ideas. Someone or several someones might pick up on an idea and take it a stop further, or use it as a jumping off point into a whole new way of helping. Please let's share what we are doing and be grateful that we are here to help. Jai Ma Linda "Love and beauty are within you.
