Dear Erica ~ I understand how you feel; I too am ashamed. I think I misunderstood your post the last time I read it because I thought you were saying you had taken up a collection at your job for Katrina, but when I looked at it again, I realized you meant it was for the tsunami...still a great idea. Our government rushed to the scene of 9/11 ~ or at least made it appear so, but comparatively, though that was horrifying and devastating, this damage is more far reaching in terms of homes, businesses, lives, services, people ~ all the things that make up a community. I'm afraid that our government is a government of photo ops. Was the fact that the President finally actually went to and stepped on the soil of Louisiana truly meaningful? Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), like the Red Cross and Salvation Army are often better poised to rush to a catastrophe, yet even these organizations were slow to respond. It is pitiful, and I don't understand it. All I can say is that I am glad that Amma has now put Her attention on this devastating crisis and is accepting donations and sending people to help, for I trust Amma more than any government or NGO. She will hear our prayers; has heard our prayers ... and She answers with swift action. Let us all do what we can ~ pray, donate what we can, raise money to donate if we can think of a way to do that. All over my small town are large garbage cans (interesting metaphor), with signs on them saying what kinds of material donations are needed, things like clothing, blankets, non-perishable food items, etc. There are so many ways, and Amma will lead us.
