Dear Eric ~ I agree with you. This is a huge wake-up call. Now there is something that calls our attention to some things that were there all along, and not just there, but in other parts of our country as well. There are many people in this nation who live as if they are in third world countries ... the richest nation in the word, so we are told. I don't know what the answer is. I spent my working life at trying to make a difference for some of these issues, but it is like a circle or a spiral ... if they are not truly solved, the problem comes back around again, sometimes in many small ways we do not see, sometimes in a huge way we cannot ignore. I have not yet taken the action to write my elected representatives about this ~ what is has happened along the Gulf Coast and our pitiful response until very recently. But this will be at the top of my list, right along with prayer for tomorrow (Monday). I am saddened by all of this, and the toll of the dead will be higher than anyone imagines, not to mention the suffering of the ones who remain with no place to go. Yet I always ave believed and continue to believe that even one person can make a difference. And there are quite a lot of us, even just here on the digest.
