Guest guest
Namah Shivayah, Can someone please offer advice? I just called to try and book November 25th (Friday evening) at the Ritz Carlton as we will be flying in that night. They said all of the M.A Center discount rates were used up and that if I wanted a room that night, it would be $500. This was not the hotel directly, but the 800 number listed ( I think they deal with several hotels). Does anyone else know for certain that this night filled up so soon? What to do if we want to come in on Friday night? Are there TONS of hotels in the area?? In walking distance to the Ritz? Also, (some native Michigan folks would know this!)...are taxi fares reasonable (say, NYC prices) or through the roof like in smaller cities? Just trying to figure this all out and I am just running in circles and stressing out way too much so any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you, Ananthasree
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya: The Extended Stay is within two blocks of the Ritz Carlton Dearborn, MI. Many are not aware that you can stay at an Extended Stay for one or two nights. They quoted a price under 80 dollars for 11/25 and 11/26. You will not get the luxury of the Ritz but you will get a kitchen at ES. Thanks to a tip from GeorgeSon: Extended Stay Hotel..260 Town Center Drive, Dearborn, MI. only two blocks from the Ritz-Carlton http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/minisite/?Portal=1&hotelID=709 $73.99 + tax. tough to beat! > > Also, (some native Michigan folks would know > this!)...are taxi fares reasonable (say, NYC > prices) or through the roof like in smaller cities? > I was born in Detroit, but didn't live there long enough to become a Red Wings, Tigers or Pistons fan (emigrated to Canada before the 1967 race riots). But one thing I do know is that public transit in Detroit SUCKS BIG TIME!! Don't even think about taking a bus. Detroit even exceeds L.A. in its addiction to the automobile. At least downtown L.A. is served by a decent subway system, not a cruddy little "People Mover". Guest guest
Look at http://tinyurl.com/bhluz The big hotel on the right is the Ritz-Carleton, where the program is going to be. The smaller one to it's left across the parking lots is Extended Stay America. 2 minute walk. on 10/20/05 7:08 PM, Ananthasree at michellewalsh88 wrote: > Namah Shivayah, > > Can someone please offer advice? Guest guest
Om Namah Shivayah Ananthasree Cabs are pretty much non-existent here. We are, after all, the Motor City! You can call Metro Cars in advance, if you'd like, as they seem to be less expensive than the taxi option. Maybe you can coordinate with someone else from the list, to cut the price in half. However, I am going to the airport a few times during the weekend, so let me know when your flight is (offlist) and I'll see if we can coodinate. The Erica Taxi is free. [Though, last year, our brother Aychut (I hope I spelled your name right!) paid me with a really good CD, that is PURELY optional! ] I am not surprised that the hotel is already full. The Dearborn area is very populated and it does, indeed, look like the Extended Stay is a good option. Hubby and I stayed in the ES last year in Chicago. It worked out GREAT, because we bought some milk and microwave rice packets so the food expense was VERY minimal. I'll also probably be making my way out to a grocery store at some point, so maybe we can coordinate a trip, for those that are interested. Let me know! (I feel like a hostess or something. hee!) Is it just me, or am I smiling a lot today? With love, Erica
Guest guest
Om Namah Shivyah, Thank you Erica (and everyone who replied). The info on the Extended Stay is VERY helpful! It sounds like it's the way to go. I am very excited, because up until today I was certain I could not go due to financial reasons. I was crying to Amma about it early in the day, and became very depressed and sick over the whole thing. An hour after my being very upset, I got a phonecall from my aunt who received some back tax return of mine at her address (from like 2 years ago!!!????) in the EXACT amount I need (and asked Amma for) to get to Michigan for the retreat. So, tears of sadness turned to tears of shock and joy. How amazing is that? She works in amazing ways!!!!!!!!! Namaste!! IIRC it's on the corner of Ford Rd. and the Southfield Freeway. So when are they going to put the retreat reservation online? What's holding that up? And is there still some possibilty that the Dearborn devi bhava might be at a location other than the Ritz? On http://www.amma.org/tours/amma-tours/n_america.html it still says "Location will be posted soon". I announced it because I saw it here. I'll check with the hotel tomorrow, but if anyone finds out for sure, by calling the local number of the hotel (313-441-2000), that $98 Amma rate rooms are still available, please let me know.
