RE: Ammachi - children at retreat

I don't have children but I thought I'd tell you some of my observations and

things I've heard from others. One thing except for times like arati and

meditation or anyway once Amma starts giving darshan - which is the majority of

the time - it's not really formal like being in a church. You can get up, walk

around, get a snack, go to the bookstore, talk to and meet other people etc. I

now have some friends from India and I feel they are much nicer to children, not

picky about little things - very different from the at times extreme strictness

of my childhood. But anyway I think you'll find all the families there, whether

Indian or American, will wellcome your children. I'd bet yours will be able to

make friends easily. I've heard parents and kids say they love to go to programs

and retreats, of course to see Amma, but also for the children to see their

friends; they're happy to have spiritual friends they hope to have for the rest

of their lives. And there should be children's

programs and sometimes they sing or put on a skit etc. I haven't been to

Michigan but also if the hall is big enough often people dance during the

bhajans and the kids can run around a little there. Also bring blankets and

cushions if possible - you'll find both children and adults taking a nap in the

early hours. So anyway I predict that your children might love to come with you

and so I don't think you should be too worried.

PS Erica let us know if hubby gets the job officially! What city is it in? As I

told you we have a very small satsang just outside of Syracuse in Fayetteville.

If you want tell us what type of job it is; the Dad in the family I visit is a

software engineer I believe. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to go to

Michigan but they are planning to go to the public programs before the retreat.
