When Circle of Love Inside, the program that writes suporting

letters of spiritual friendship to people in prison, first started,

Dixie was one of its first volunteers. She offered to write to the

first person in prison to whom I ever wrote, a woman on Death Row in

Pennsylvania. You all know what a wonderful writer Dixie was. She

and the women in prison in Pennsylvania shared a love of animals and

in the beginning of her correspondence with this prisoner, Dixie's

dog gave her litter of puppies. The puppy report was an important

item in their letters...

 

 

Dear Aikya ~ thank you for sharing all of this. The story of the puppies was

so poignant, even in the re-telling. And somehow, when Dixie's letter

recipient finally has her day in court, and leaves her imprisonment, I believe
