Guest guest
Rick-I love your posts about this! I can relate to the idea of watching your family-like you are at a Grade B movie..lol...I do this quite often when I'm around the family for the hollydays.. and it can be a challenge to simply watch rather than become one of the actors. In the end, it feels good not to have been drawn into any of the possible dramas. We really can stay out of them. And about the idea of how the family may "come around." Perhaps I can provide some hope to those who are hopeful for our own families. My family kind of poked fun at me over it. I was always the "oddball." Not that I mind that! I kind of relish being what they consider an oddball. I had been a vegetarian, did yoga, meditated-all when it was considered "counter culture" so many years ago. Now, they want to know more about meditation, eating better and so on. And ayurvedic medicine! My kids always respected my meditation time. When they were teens, they seemed to feel that they had to make fun of my spiritual practices to "be cool" with their friends. In fact, the teasing has continued until just recently. (They are 20 & 22) Yet they were both very curious about it. My oldest son learned TM once he was about 16. My mother also then learned that practice. I was quite surprised at the time. Now I have Amma's pictures just everywhere in my home. I kind of forget about how many I have up until my younger son tells me how all of his friends want to know who this Indian lady is plastered all over our walls! My younger son just recently learned the IAM program but it's "hush hush" with his friends so I respect his need for privacy when they are around. It's our "secret." A couple of years ago my sister and mother (not my "real Mother! LOL) but my birth mother (whom I do love) wanted to go see Amma. I found this out when I returned from a Michigan retreat. They were very upset with me that I didn't tell them about going to see Amma! Shocked..Oh yea, baby! I was shocked!! When I asked what made them so interested, they both told me "You are always so incredibly happy after being with Amma." I did not realize that they knew how happy I was (and YUP I AM HAPPY, alright!) On our way to see Amma in Fairfield, my mother remarked, "How can anyone believe in God when science has done so much and proves so much?" I responded that even Einstein admitted that the more he knew, the less he realized that he knew! And left it at that. I thought, Amma can just take over the driver's seat on this one! So my mother did meet Amma and thanked her for "being in her daughter's life" (mine) WOW! Sweeeeeet, mom! Not only that, she burst into tears every time she saw Amma. She got a mantra from her, too! Boy, that just makes my head spin. My mom was a major agnostic-or maybe even an atheist! (My dad was Catholic so we were raised Catholic but she NEVER stepped into a church except for a wedding or funeral). I think she had her own thing maybe-or just wasn't sure where she was. My sister still has not gone and has lost interest I think. I never bring it up. (what a mixed bag-they were mad I didn't tell them but when I did mention it, they act like, why are you telling me!? So I don't mention it at all. It's kept pretty much under wraps even though they know where I am on this.) So you never know! They may come around or they may not. Everything is in its own time, that is for sure. Ammachi, Rick Archer <rick@s...> wrote: > > on 12/13/05 5:20 PM, Omenka Supriti Nnadi at oomenka wrote: > > > Vengence is mine, sayeth the Lord! We really can stay out of them. Actors portray various emotions on stage, but they don't forget that they're actors and it's a play.
