Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Linda, Since I've been so busy with this project, I just now noticed your e-mail! Your point is good, & I did e-mail Sw. Dayamrita about it. It was suggested that I start by enrolling the local satsang's help, & Sw. Dayamrita said to let him know, if help was still needed after that. The MA Center is already asking devotees for help with a number of local charities. In addition to 2 low income families, HRC's case mgr just asked for help with 2 newly homeless families, & probably a 3rd. homeless family. It broke my heart to pass a mother & her 3-year-old daughter asleep in a car, & to then learn that the case mgr couldn't get them "adopted" for the holidays. That is no way for a child to live. Then I over heard another mother telling the case mgr how her 5-year-old daughter said she wanted to go home. Her mother responded that they had no home to go to, since her grandmother had died. Her mother also lost a good job. Then I watched her board a bus to sleep in an armory. I cried on the drive home. But today, the little girl said "hi" to me, & was so bright-eyed & loving! Some devotees are helping, & I'm also asking businesses for help. If you want a list of requested gifts, I'll be glad to e-mail you privately. It's a lot of fun to shop for these kids & an excellent way to get into the real spirit of Christmas. It must be hard not to be around your daughter for Christmas. It probably would help you to feel better, to focus on a seva. Amma said, " We tend to think only of our own problems and not to think compassionately of others' problems. Dear Sweta ~ this may be something that needs to be run by Swami Dyamrita. ....I would love to help too. Because this is the first Christmas in her life that I will not even see my daughter, I am not feeling very much in the holiday spirit. I haven't even put our little tree up, though Doug ldid put our lights up outside the trailer. I think participating in something like this would help remind me what Christmas is really all about.
