Guest guest
Namaste everyone! I have some questions, in general, about mantras. I have heard some of you receiving mantras from Amma. How does this happen? Is this something that occurs during darshan and Her visits here? Is it something She immediately tells you? Are they unique mantras, or standard ones that She feels strongly that you should recite? Thank you in advance for your patience and assistance. Jai Ma! Guest guest
Namah Shivayah Bela, Amma gives out mantras during Devi Bhava. When you get up to her for your darshan, ask Amma directly. You can simply say, "Amma, mantra?" If Amma says yes, then you will go and wait in the mantra line. While you are waiting, a sevite will talk to you about the significance and importance of getting a mantra and you will pick your chosen God, Godess or aspect for which you would like to receive your mantra. Eventually, you will make your way to the side of Ammas chair, where she will whisper your mantra into your ear. For me, this was the most intense and bonding aspect of the Guru-disciple relationship. I don't think we will ever forget the feeling of Amma whispering our mantra into our ear...it is so precious! I think that the mantras are varied and are both unique and standard. She knows exactly what we need, and the mantra is no exception. Love!!!! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. I agree that receiving my mantra from Mother was an incredible experience. She had me sit by Her chair a long time, and I was able to see each face as Her children came to Her for darshan. The love in those faces was incredible.Every once in a while Mother would turn to me and pinch my cheek, which She knows I love! I remember the music, the beautiful color of Her sari. Oh wow, the inner feelings even now, are indescribable. I never thought I would feel this way in this life. I didn't think it was possible.I'm crying as I write this! Big baby that I am. Anyway, it is an experience that should not be missed in this life. Pranams, Prasadini Ananthasree wrote: > > Namah Shivayah Bela, > > Amma gives out mantras during Devi Bhava. Guest guest
Based on the form of God/dess that you mention (could be Amma), you are given a fairly standard mantra. At least mine is very well known. Added to the very well-known mantra there is one extra syllable, a bija mantra (seed mantra) of the goddess. Bija mantras are supposed to impart extra power to the mantra. When Amma tells you your mantra--beforehand in my case, you are given it in writing by one of the swamis. After Amma tells you your mantra, you go to another class where they make sure that you can pronounce your mantra, that you know the meaning of it, that you know how to use a mala and understand that you are supposed to say your mantra 108 times every day. Just to provide another side of things, when I received my mantra, it was not an ecstatuic experience. Amma seemed a bit annoyed at what I'd written as the deity. I had the goal of geting the mantra, so that was the important thing. Part of my lesson seems to be to keep going with whatever I know in my heart is right, even if nobody congratulates me for so doing. I haven't always trusted myself...and who is "myself" but God whispering guidance just when I need it. Aikya Ammachi, "Bela Gaytan" <bela.fela@g...> wrote: > > Namaste everyone! Guest guest
Dear Aikya, Thank you for sharing this information. I had heard stories here and there about people receiving mantras from Amma, but then I would wonder how would you remember it, especially if you are not well-versed in Sanskrit or familiar with many of the common mantras.
