Dear Prasadini:

I want to second your point.

Amma never made this prediction to my knowledge.

Yet, to be balanced, had something happened that day,

many would have jumped to the conclusion that Amma

had predicted that and been proclaiming such.

I'm very curious as to why. I agree with you that one

cannot mentally fathom the guru, but one still wonders

why this particular dynamic. Mother has said many things

to me that haven't come true--yet--as you say.

Thanks in Amma,

Namah Shivaya,

Well, as Swami Paratmananda said, Mother will say a lot of things that

turn out not to be so. When people would tell Her about a problem She

would say "Amma will take care of it" and nothing would happen, or She

would say things would get better and they wouldn't. She told me She

would make a sankalpa about my health, and it didn't get better, but it

didn't get worse, given my condition, it could have. Maybe She wanted

me to stop asking Her for health when She has better things to give.

Mother is not the only one. My husband is very much into Karunamayi, and

she has said all kinds of things to me - direct answers to direct

questions - like two years in a row when asked She told me to go to Her

retreat, and then something would happen and I wouldn't be able to go.

The first year I had plane tickets, paid the retreat fee, etc, and was

just too sick to make the trip.

Who knows with these people? They aren't fortune tellers. As Big Swami

says, he's been with Her for so many years and just can't understand Mother.

I think the idea is to let it go, let it flow. Not that I'm any good at

that myself.

Jai MA!

Poor Amma-She has a tough job- If She says a disaster may happen and asks

people to pray, and then the disaster happens, people will ask" Amma why did you

not prevent the disaster? why couldnt you prevent the tsunami etc?"

On the other hand, if Amma says that a tough time is ahead, and asks people to

pray, and then if nothing bad happens, then people ask" Amma why wasnt there

any disaster?why was your prediction wrong?"

it is we through our negativity who create disasters, and we through our

prayers and God's Grace can prevent them too.

Actually, Amma has an easy job. If nothing bad happens, devotees

will say it is because of Amma's grace. If something bad does

happen, devotees will say that it is because people did not pray hard

enough! :-)

In fact, I once told Amma this, telling her that she gets off scot-

free whatever happens -- good things are caused by her grace, and bad

things are caused by our actions.

Nandu,

You have made a nice point in a very humorous way.

But the point Bala was making was in the last sentence:

it is we through our negativity who create disasters, and we through

our prayers and God's Grace can prevent them too.

In other words, focus within to see what you can do to improve the

situation.

Hi Nandu,

Thankfully we all know that after coming into contact with Amma,

things have by and large gotten much better for most of us, compared

to our pre-Amma days. Which is probably why you keep coming to the

retreats year after year.

Say for arguments sake, that instead of going to the retreats, you

went to a rock concert every year; I wonder how much satisfaction you

would have got, this would have been a way to "scientifically"

validate Amma's grace. I am not suggesting that you do it, in fact I

am pretty sure that you will NOT do it, nor will most others :-). I

rest my case!
