Dear temba ~ what you say here is very important. All spirituality belief systems have their origins in eternity, and as far back as archeologists have been able to trace humankind they have found evidence of spirituality ... in drawings on cave walls, in rock "art," in small sculpted statues, in the burial practices a particular group of people practiced, etc. I have read that shamanism is the earliest spirituality belief system, and everywhere I have looked, I have seen evidence of this. Recently I saw some wonderful pictures of Shiva that were on a website. Some were very ancient, rock wall drawings or sculptures, and very definitely many of these bore the indistinguishable stamp of shamanism. Then as the life styles of people change and evolve, their spirituality belief systems evolve, whether it is the ancient rishis going into caves and bestowing the Vedas and Sanatan dharma as a gift to humanity, or Jesus realizing that his religion had become bogged down in formulaic rituals and the need for money to change hand, and he took it back to its simplest essense, "Love one another as I have loved you." Similarly Buddha, who was originally a Hindu, after his awakening to the realities of life he had been protected from, went to sit under the banyan tree until he achieved his awakening and simplified the beliefs he had grown up with into a new system. Then people and cultures begin to bump up against one another, and this also creates change (and sometimes, unfortunately religious wars). If all could understand, as you have stated, temba, that all of these spirituality belief systems have come from Eternity to speak to the children of Earth, and there are different paths for different people, according to temperament and other factors. If we could just get the "my way is the only way" out of it, we'd all be a lot better off. I remember once, when living with my parents, I went to their born again Christian church. I was enjoying the service and relating to its message in my own way, and then the sermon began ... and I heard the words, "and we are going to convert the whole Treasure Valley." (this is a somewhat widespread area that includes Ontario, OR; Payette and Fruitland, ID, and some other contiguous areas that are high desert but surrounded on all sides by distant mountains. And that was when he lost me. I never went back. I liked what you said about "In the essence is where the inquiry stops," and in the tradition of Sanatan Dharma, this is where the process of what is called "self-inquiry begins.
