Namah Shivayah,

Does anyone know which shoulder of Amma's is

injured, left or right? I only ask because

twice she "accidentally" lurched into me in

Australia, both times with the same side.

She doesn't have shoulder injury. Please let us not spread things that we are

not absolutely sure about. I think it is more of her trapezius muscle anyway.

I believe it would be worse on Her right, but I'm sure both would flare up, as

well as Her mid back, lower back, etc.

Unless this is a recent, new change, which is wholly possible, it is not a

shoulder injury.

I am quite sure that Amma does indeed have what is called an "RSI" (repetetive

stress injury) in her right shoulder. Last summer tour both Gita and Swamini

Krishnamritaprana mentioned to me that Amma's shoulder was not in good shape at

all, and that was why they were asking that people only go for darshan every few

days, especially if they were going to more than one city. Any body that repeats

the same physical motion over and over again without rest for extended periods

of time will develop this kind of injury. It's basically an inflamation of the

tendon. We commonly see it manifest in the west as carpal tunnel syndrome in the

wrists and arms for those who type a lot. Considering that Amma has been

repeating the motion of embracing with her right arm for... how many years now?

It would be almost impossible for her to not have developed an RSI. That is why

we often see people massaging her right shoulder, and if you observe closely,

there is usually a hot water bottle

hidden under a white cloth on her back.

Swamiji said it well, that Amma's cross is that chair. She may not need to

sleep or eat or nurture her body in other ways, but it is due to her

disidentification with the body, not because her body is unbreakable.

Prajna,

I would agree that she has some sort of RSI, but many people mistake the

trapezius for the shoulder. Being involved in exercise training for over 20

years, I have a good understanding of muscle kinesiology and the traps are more

involved than the three heads of the shoulder in the motions that Amma commonly

repeats. Though maybe her rotary cuff is also damaged.

I am well aware of the other things you mentioned. I don't know how long you

have been around Amma, but you might remember the wrist braces as well.

Sometimes Amma still uses them from time to time.

I'd personally prefer to not discuss these things further in such a public

forum, as it is not my place. Suffice to say, the cross analogy is a good one.

More than anyone can know.

If Amma is a divine being can She suffer like a mortal?

Can any mortal even an Olympic Decatholon champion

perform like Amma

with two or less hours of sleep for over three decades

non-stop no vacations no elaborate physical therapy yet

keep a blinding smile and clear penetrating eyes?

Can any mortal be as omniscient as Amma?

Please consider that we are not talking about

a Secretary or data entry clerk. RSI is terrible.

I have the disorder so I know.

Why is it that the protectors of Amma see Amma

as fragile? Are they thinking with their hearts

and no with an empirical "mind"/

I do not want to abuse the Darshan privilege either.

Just wondering that's all.

We each have our lila. It is our job as devotees to protect Her body. It is

Her job to pull us close. Does that mean you should never have darshan? Of

course not. She wouldn't let us run away anyway.

Amma has incarnated into a human body, just as Christ did. Suffering is part of

the human experience for better and worse. Besides it would stand to reason

that Her body will take on things from the throngs of Her devotees coming into

Her embrace.

In Indian Mystical cirlcle it is believed that Mahatma's like Amma take

peoples Karma's into their body. In Awaken Children! I recall Amma

admitting that She does this and has to suffer the huggees Karma in the

form of physical pain.

Sri Ramakrishna's disciples believed that His throat cancer manifested

as a result of taking in devotees Karma. Christianity says Jesus died

for our sins. It comes with the territory? Yes. But once again try to

recall that they choose to do this. Prajna had it right when she

alluded to the idea that the pain is there yet Mahatma's can

dis-associate from it. Once again I do not know anything. I let my

chatterbox mind prattle on.

It is hard to resist because I love this aspect of Amma. It really

fascinates me.

I also recall reading in more than one Amma book about her taking on karmas in

this way. I also can recall several times when I have seen her leave the hall

after a very long darshan with her right arm hanging by her side instead of

stretched out to "high-five" us as usual. Two things seem pretty clear: 1)

Amma's body does indeed suffer the consequences of the action it goes through 2)

She is totally unperturbed, uninterested and uninvolved in the pain, as her

"mind" is in constant union with source. The thoughts/feelings that we often

experience during physical pain ("poor me,I can't bear it," etc) can't

possibly arise in one who has no identification with body.

I too am endlessly fascinated by the sheer depth of her selfless nature. If

she is the emodiment of what we all are in actuality, does that really mean that

underneath all these silly vasanas we too are nothing but love? Wow! She always

says "Creator and Creation are one and the same." So as we each experience the

inevitable suffering that comes with the human birth, it's only our perspective

that makes it painful.

Once J. Krishnamurti said to an audience, "Do you want to know my secret? My

secret is that I don't mind what happens."

Jai Ma!

love,

Prajna

peoples Karma's into their body. In Awaken Children! I recall Amma

admitting that She does this and has to suffer the huggees Karma in the

form of physical pain.

Sri Ramakrishna's disciples believed that His throat cancer manifested

as a result of taking in devotees Karma. Christianity says Jesus died

for our sins. It comes with the territory? Yes. But once again try to

recall that they choose to do this. Prajna had it right when she

alluded to the idea that the pain is there yet Mahatma's can

dis-associate from it. Once again I do not know anything. I let my

chatterbox mind prattle on.

It is hard to resist because I love this aspect of Amma. It really

fascinates me.

Namah Shivaya,

From the time I became involved with my first guru decades ago, I was

told that

the Guru suffers physically because She/He takes on our karma. I have

not read

about one guru who hasn't gone through a great amount of physical

suffering.

Bhagavan Nityananda said that a yogi may think about his/her body once or

twice a day, otherwise they ignore it.

Mother has given Her whole self to the world, with no thought to

"Herself". I don't think we can even imagine how She physically suffers,

or what Her mindset is. At least this child can't. She is just Love, to

the point that we have no idea, no point of reference.

Thank you.

That was very incisive.

It just occured to me that most Mahatma's take on a

relatively manageable amount of devotees.

I believe that they usually are selective about which

aspirant can come within their sphere.

Amma will allow anyone with hideous karma to Her lap

seemingly unscreened. It appears that She may be one

of the most gracious/generous Avatars

What grace!!

Namah Shivaya,

I read a book about Sarada Devi several years ago. If someone touched

Her who hadn't been doing sadhana, She would experience great physical

pain for quite some time. Sarada Devi was a great being. You have a very

good point about our Mother.
