Guest guest
Hi everybody. My name is Melanie and I am interested in starting yoga but I don't know a lot about it. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what separates ashtanga yoga from the other types and its specific benefits? Thanks! <*> <*> ashtanga yoga <*> Your
Guest guest
I'm sure that there are other people who can answer this more elegantly and thoroughly than I can, but I'll just give you a bit. I went through many different styles of yoga before finding Ashtanga, and once I had found it, I knew I was home. Ashtanga is based on a specific series of postures, and in Ashtanga, attention to breath, gazing point, and body locks are particularly important. In terms of benefits, the "vinyasas" help the blood to circulate and that, in conjunction with sweating, lets all of the toxins out of your body. Yoga Journal is great for general yoga information, and this article attempts to describe different types of yoga, but I tend to disagree with how it portrays Ashtanga (http://www.yogajournal.com/newtoyoga/165_1.cfm). Good luck & let me know if you have any questions! ashtangayogaFrom: mandreazza20 .auDate: Mon, 24 Apr 2006 01:59:02 +0000ashtanga yoga a yoga newbie in need of helpHi everybody. Guest guest
For me Ashtanga is far easier to concentrate in.Having practised Iyengar where you sometimes take minutes with props to get into a posture and hatha which is slow. I really like the way ashtanga generates the heat in Surya Namaskar to start, and the postures flow from one to the next and in the seated postures with the vinyasa inbetween to keep the heat.I find that once I get going I am so absorbed by my practice, the posture, breath, bandhas etc that nothing else comes into my head. At the end of my first ashtanga class I was physically shattered, it is hard going, but it was the sense of calm, balance and happy untroubledness as I walked up the street that had me thinking why cant I feel like this more often and is what drew me back.
