Events at Prashanthi Nilayam

15 AUG 2003

The following is a narration of events at Prashanthi Nilayam by a

Sai Sister:

I wondered why there was no mention of a recent event,

which one friend told me about. On Thursday I came to

evening bhajans to see that He was still sitting in

the big chair, talking to students and teachers. (It

seems that lately, there is no set time for evening

bhajan. If He sits on the veranda, the bhajan begins

when He gets up! He got up at about 5:10 PM, so that

is when bhajan began. On other days, it has been

earlier or later.)

I noticed then that Swami was walking only in very

short, bird-like steps, limping more and looked like

He was struggling to move about. I asked one friend

about it and she said that the other day, Swami was

moving amongst the gents on the veranda taking many

letters. One gent was sitting with his knees up. When

Swami went by, I guess there was not much of a path

for Him, because it seems when He stepped forward, His

knees bumped hard against that gent's knees. It was a

hard blow to Swami's operated leg. My friend said that

everyone who noticed it, gasped in despair. Since

then, He has been moving about showing acute pain. He

was really walking nicely before, so to see Him like

this is really painful for us. Hopefully, it is only a

temporary setback and He will be moving about freely

again. Swami is so eager to take letters and give joy

to all, that He doesn't pay attention to where His

body is going! Oh Swami! For us at least, be

careful!!!

Remember I have been mentioning now and then, about

the water troubles in Puttaparthi? Not only here, but

all over India people are experiencing problems

because the ground water has reduced so much, due to

insufficient rains. One by one, the bore wells of

buildings in Puttaparthi have been running out of

water (I recall that in one discourse Swami talked of

how bore wells were not a good thing, because they

only run out of water after a few years. Here, each

building has its own bore well, so you can imagine the

hundreds and hundreds of bore wells there are in such

a small area!)

Anyway, I just learned that for the last few days, the

Ashram is cutting off the water supply from 9 PM till

4 AM! Yesterday, they cut off the water from about 6

PM till 8 AM the next morning, and then cut it again

at 9 AM! This is news that makes me shiver. If even

the Ashram is experiencing water difficulties, what

will our fate be? Half the water motors on my street

are not working, they need to be drilled deeper. The

water motor in my own house (directly behind the

canteen) is taking double the time to fill up the tank

on the roof. It is only a matter of time before the

water runs out. Swami! We need Your help now! India

needs nice rains!

Today is Indian Independence day, but there was no

special program in the morning, that I could discern,

except the school children came and the mikes were on

for bhajan.

When Swami left after bhajan, the car (which has, in

the last few days, been silent and not squeaking so

much!) moved so slowly that several people leaned over

and put letters right into Swami's hands, which He had

"no choice" but to accept! The

surprised/what-to-do/confused look on His face, as the

letters were shoved in His hands, was adoringly

"clueless"!
