MESSAGE FOR SATHYA SAI ORGANISATION

UNIVERSAL LOVE & WORLD PEACE FESTIVAL

PARRAMATTA 27 SEPTEMBER 2003

I am pleased to have the opportunity to deliver this message of

support for your multicultural music and dance performance.

Australia is a truly multicultural society, comprising of peoples

from a diverse range of cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious

backgrounds. This diversity is particularly pronounced in Western

Sydney, the scene of especially sustained migration from the Indian

subcontinent over recent years.

At a time of considerable economic and social change, and in the

shadow of threatening international events including some that we

witnessed so dramatically in Mumbai and New Delhi, we face a

continuing challenge to live together in harmony. To do this we all

have an obligation to strive to uphold the principles of peace,

tolerance, social justice and mutual respect. Governments and

communities need to drive home fundamentals of Australian

citizenship.

I wish you a successful and enjoyable festival and best wishes for

your future endeavours.
