Saibaba preaches qualities for meaningful life

By Our Staff Reporter

PUTTAPARTHI Nov. 23. Life without `satyam (truth), dharmam (eternal

law), prema (love) and shanti (peace)' is hollow and it will

collapse without these four qualities, the Puttaparthi-based

spiritual icon, Satya Saibaba, has observed. Man is able to survive

only by following these vital characters, he said.

In his discourse to a large gathering of devotees at Sai Kulwanth

Hall in Prashanti Nilayam here today on the occasion of his 78th

birthday Saibaba said education without these ideals was empty and

had no value. He expressed concern at the increasing trend of

neglecting parents by man. Explaining that great personalities like

Ram and Shivaji could become the role models due to the qualities of

their parents, particularly the upbringing by their mothers. But,

people were neglecting their parents nowadays, he noted. Whatever a

person would become in his/her life was based on their parents'

qualities.

Instead of the parents guiding their children the society of the day

was witnessing a role reversal -- parents were fearing their

children, Saibaba stated. He took more than an hour to explain about

his mother, Eeswaramma, his birth, his growth and the divine

incidents that had taken place in his childhood.

Saibaba said several persons were trying to claim themselves as the

avatar of Sai including one at Penukonda and another one by sporting

a similar hair style to his hair. Though they were claiming

themselves as Saibaba the people were not believing them as they

were not real Saibaba. He would not leave Puttaparthi as long as his

physical appearance was there on the earth.

Asking the devotees to never give up faith in the god Saibaba

said, "Sai is you and you are Sai''. In the latter part of his

speech Saibaba explained about the persons who devoted themselves to

Sai and lived more than 100 years. Saibaba was in a joyous mood

through his stay in the Sai Kulwanth Hall. Unlike in the past he

went round the hall blessing the devotees twice. He was offered

`harati' (a prayer with lamps) by several woman devotees in the

beginning and by the seva dal members at the end. In the evening,

renowned singers Parveen Sultana and Dana Gillespie enthralled the

gathering with their vocal concerts.
