This was the first of many such planned conferences in various cities. An economist by profession, Jagadeesan, 62, retired as the deputy director general of the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority in 1999, and has since been traveling the globe both for his work as a consultant with the United Nations International Development Organization and the United Nations Council on Trade and Development. His sojourns also have a deeper spiritual purpose, an active involvement in the Sathya Sai Baba conventions and garnering people's interest in the Indian TRAC program.
