Events at Prashanthi Nilayam - 31 JUL 2004

Yesterday evening, it was announced by Prof Anil Kumar that there

will be a two days program entitled "Festival of Indian Culture and

Spirituality" organised by the women's wing of Sri Sathya Sai Seva

Organisations starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Swami came in the buggy at 7:10 a.m. There was a group sitting near

the lion statue in the Sai Kulwant Hall playing Nadaswaram. Two rows

of small girls dressed in yellow dress and holding a plate with a

lamp lined up on either side of the passage on the ladies side.

After passing the ladies side, the buggy was asked to turn towards

the lobby. Swami got down in Sai Kulwant Hall in front of the lobby

and climbed up. He then went and lit a lamp and sat down on the

sofa. Smt. Chetna gave an introductory talk on the festival and

introduced four lady speakers each representing Hinduism, Buddhism,

Christianity and Muslim. The talks were over at around 8:45 a.m. and

Swami asked the students to distribute the sweets to the gathering.

Mangala Aarathi was performed at around 9:00 a.m. and swami left Sai

Kulwant Hall. Prof Anil Kumar announced that there will be a music

concert by Priya Sisters at 4:00 p.m.

Swami came in the afternoon at 3:10 p.m. amidst nadaswaram music and

veda chanting. After passing the ladies side, the buggy turned and

entered the veranda. Swami got down in the veranda and walked to the

lobby and sat on the sofa. At 3:20 p.m., He asked Priya Sisters to

start the concert. They sang mostly Sai Devotional Music and a

couple of Bhajans. It was very nice. Swami then asked them to

sing 'entaro mahanu bhavulu' of Thyagaraja. They sang till 4:40 p.m.

Then Swami got up and gave sarees to Priya sisters and by a single

wave of hand produced two identical gold chains with pedant and gave

to the two sisters. swami then asked them again to sing 'Nee

dayarada', another Thyagaraja comosition. Then, he asked the boys to

start chanting Vedas at 4:50 p.m. Swami got up at 5:00 p.m. and

Mangala Aarathi was performed after which Swami left.
