Guest guest
Sai Ram all, Recently a message on the forum - Can you help me? was received. To the practical problem of life explained by the devotee, there were quite some responses. Every response reflected on a personal experience of the writer or gave sage advise. But, with the environment we are in where "Can you help me?" type of problems can be found in every nook or corner. It is not one thing can be blamed for bringing on this catastrophy on us. TV soaps, newspapers falling of standards and liberal exposure in films is making us all bolder to step into the forbidden garden and have a bite at the apple. When Baba explains 'senses' He ellaborates that a man who does not have his senses under his control is not worthy of being called a man. In the Gita Bhagwan says "HE WHO CAN WITHDRAW HIS SENSES FROM THE ATTRACTIONS OF THE PHENOMINAL WORLD EVEN AS THE TORTISE WITHDRAWS ITS LIMBS IN ITS SHELL - SUCH IS THE ONE WITH A STABLE MIND." Now, this is what should be our aim in achieving sense control. Simple - withdraw like a tortoise. But Bhagwan also cautions in Gita: "A SHIP IN SEA IS TOSSED AND CARRIED AWAY BY WAVES DURING A STORM, EVEN SO IS DISCRIMINATION SWEPT AWAY BY THE MIND WHICH YEILDS TO THE ROVING SENSES." As ellaborated above - sense play on the mind can be devastating - it can convert the forbidden garden into our own back yard kitchen garden. Permitting the senses an inch and they will grab a foot and within no time all nine yeads will be gone. For the remedy or control for the senses - namasmaran is what everybody suggests - but, what instigates sense, mind and intellect to the unwanted - it is desire. Swami says that desire hunts in mind, senses and intellect and where it finds a hold it smothers wisdom. Desire has to be crubbed at the roots. Having the forbidden fruit is also a desire - that too a very strong one - and no amount of succumbing to that desire will satisfy a person. Swami says that when thirst hits a person they would drink unbelievable amount of water as if there will be no more water tomorrow, but within a few hours that person is again thirsty. So fulfilling desire is no way to rein them. Thought for the Day today was very important - desire for the forbidden can give us say 1 cent worth of happiness - Bliss is happiness worth a million dollars - do you still want that one cent worth of stink. Just as the joy felt in dreams disappears when you wake, the joy felt in the waking stages too disappears when you wake into the higher awareness. Make best use of the present moment to become aware of the Divinity latent in all. When you die, you must not die like an animal or a worm, but as a Manava (Man) who has realised that he is Madhava (God). That is the consummation of all the years you spend in the human frame.- Baba Thought for The divine command is for killing desire to control senses on all fronts. But how do we do that, I will address that over the weekend for the benefit of all devotees. Sai Ram - Be Happy JP For devotees of Sri Sathya Sai Baba - Important Announcement.
