Sometimes it seems so. But then there is also God’s grace. Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, “Never call yourself a sinner, born in sin or bred in sin. That kind of self-condemnation ill becomes a child of God. “In every one of you God is the moving spirit, the very soul; how then can you be evil? You are here fulfilling God’s purpose according to his will, his plan, his law. He has endowed you with many faculties so that you may seek him and reach him. You are, therefore, not a helpless, neglected individual, undergoing death sentence. You are an ever-blissful soul, born to a rich heritage, which is yours for the asking.” Only, many of you do not ask. Some of us cry buckets of tears over the harm others do to us. But how many tears do we actually shed over the harm we do to ourselves and to others? How do we change right here, right now, and begin to truly respect ourselves and others and begin anew? According to Sri Sathya Sai Baba, “With sincere repentance all sin can be washed away. All karma is cancelled out. At the root of all spiritual action — which is without reaction — is the seed of love. If that seed is nourished, it will grow as the tree grows, and all things of value automatically come from that tree of love. Regardless of the sins of the past if there is deep repentance and love of God the sins are washed out and the nature purified. To fear otherwise is weakness. God has infinite compassion.” Why is it important that nature be purified? Sri Sathya Sai Baba explains, “Every mortal must attain immortality. That is why I dislike people condemning themselves as sinners, born in sin, living in sin, fundamentally sin itself, etc. I always remind such people that it is treason to their inner reality to heap such stark falsehoods upon their own heads. This becomes clear when you address anyone of these people, ‘Hey! Sinner!’ They will turn round in anger and threaten you with hard pounding. Why? Because that word ‘sinner’ wounds their innermost core which is pure, fixed, eternal, and egoless.” (From the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.)
