Swami has given us good guidelines and I simply will repeat them

1. Parents are the first teachers. Modern brain biology and biological

relativity emphasizes that the motivation, goal setting, self regulation

against adversaries and creativity, tapping the intuiton is ideal before the

first 3-5 years. What is easy then will take longer time later. Parents are the

first teachers.

2. Children are born to learn through imitation, intuition, with excellent

memory for good and bad, They are very persistent till they learn a task

3. TV and modern high tech games have caused more arousal responses and flight

and fight reactions in the little ones

4. Saenger did studies on 3500 children and proved that watching violence has

the same impact as being physically or emotionally abused first hand.

With the above facts

1. Parents need to learn to control their voice and noise level, tone of their

speech, need to show love, sympathy and empathy.

2. They neeed to prove spouse bonding to children by respectful love and mutual

understanding. We can not change the other but we can change our attitude about

others.

3. Family need to get involved doing things to gether and have daily a designated family time.

4. TV shows and toys should be curbed to 30 minutes a day. Choose more value based shows

5. Parents should clearly define the house rules, by following them themselves.

Consequences should be clearly defined

6. Power structure should encourage making healthy choices and should not yield

secondary to pressure when consequences need to be paid off.

Brain, Mind, SAI Educare, has guidelines for effective parenting using Swami's

value based teachings, in Chapter 12 and all about parenting in chapter 11.

Many medical references were given.

You can buy the book through ordering from teh publisher,

www.univpress.com and visit my web site www.saicdp.org for further details.

The chapter is about 56 pages and the brief suggestions are given.

Sairam Meenaji I have already forwarded your mail to my daughter who is in

USA. She has a 3 year old boy. I hope your mail will help her. I even told

her to contact you if she needs any help from you. Meenaji I must thank

Swami to have a person like you in our Sai group. May Swami bless you and

your family. Your Sai Sister Rama.

I feel flattered. Knowledge is for sharing and it multiplies and is the only

friend in a strange land. I feel that this satsang on line is a mutual seva, I

learn from all of you.

Recently, the health minsitry, Government of India came up with an order which

banned smoking scenes in the cinema and television. By doing so, India became

one of the few countries in the world to come up with such an initiative. The

rationale given behind the regulation were the reports which indicated that 52%

of children took up to smoking due to the influence of movies. The minister

mentioned that the media hasn't been supportive of this initiative.

We can read one of the interviews given by Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, Health

Minister, Government of India explaining the rationale behind the new

initiative at this following link:

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1153963.cms

We can also extend support to this initiative by writing to him at

hfm (AT) alpha (DOT) nic.in with copies (cc) to dhanavel (AT) nic (DOT) in (Personal Secretary to

Health Minister) and resp-health (AT) hub (DOT) nic.in

A mail can also be written to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India asking

him to support the Health Minister at http://pmindia.nic.in/write.htm

Give Care,

Namaste...
