NAYANAR

text-align:justify">The town

Pullirikku Velur became sacred because of the Lord Shiva’s abode known as

Vaiththiswaran Temple.

color:purple;font-weight:bold">The legend denotes that the Lord residing in

this abode take the form of curing the bonds of birth from the diseases that

the body accumulates. The Supreme resides with His loving consort

“Thaiyal Nayaki” and their grace “Muththukumara Swamy.”

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:black"> Our Nayanar was born in that town in

a rich family.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">He was the owner of

limitless worldly wealth, but he more renowned for his peerless good principles

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:black">.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">He had his-self surrendered totally to Lord

Shiva’s lotus feet

color:black">. He had a great desire for the Lord who burnt the Deva of desire

- “Manmathan” like a piece of straw.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">He found that the feet of the Flawless Absolute is

the real wealth and didn’t care about his worldly wealth at all. Unlike

other Nayanmars’ who served their loving Lord by serving His devotees, he

thought the best way to serve His loving Lord by illuminating His abode with

lights as the Lord himself is a “Joythi” (Blissful light).

color:blue;font-weight:bold">Like a mother who takes time and care in dressing

up her baby, he spent his whole day in decorating the Lord’s holy place

with nice lamps. This became his daily

routine without any other thoughts in his mind.

text-align:justify">

bold">His holy service continued in spite of whatever hurdles he faced. As he

continued this service without any earning he very soon came to stage of

selling his wealth one by one. He sold the household articles one by one and

lit the lamps in the abode everyday with pure ghee. Then came the situation

when there was nothing left in the house to sell!!!! He was not convinced to

beg to somebody. That once a prominent rich man, who was still wealthy with

the never dying love for the Lord, but had no money in hand now, toiled to cut

the straws (Kanampul) in the fields and sold it to others. With the money

he got in return the famed devotee bought the pure ghee and burnt the lamps in

the temple. One day he could not sell the straws in spite of all his efforts.

He had nothing else in his hand!!! Still not withdrawn from the sacred service

he undertook to do, he went ahead burning the straws to illuminate the temple

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:black">.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">As the stacks of impurities gets burnt soon when

the devotion for Lord Shankara enters, all the straws he had brought got over

soon and he required more to illuminate the temple.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">That true lover of God unwilling to stop the

service even that time, put his own hair in place of the straw and started

burning it - burning the cause of the two types of deeds

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">!!!

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:black">

text-align:justify">

bold">Lord Shiva who is ever engrossed in His blissful dance melted like a

butter by the warmth of the devotion and the flawless love of the Nayanar,

Kanampullar (name obtained as he sold the ‘Kanampull” straws).

In return He blessed the Nayanar with eternal bliss and to be in His abode Kailaya

forever blissfully saluting his loving Lord.

"Comic Sans MS";color:black">

text-align:justify">

bold">Let the strong rock like determined devotion with which Kanampulla Nayanar

started even burning his head for the lamp, stay in the mind!!!!
