Im gonna describe How we do the sequence here In Miami 3 Aums Ganesh Bhajan Guru Bhajan and then any bhajan (about 8 or 9) trying to put the slow ones first Subrahmanyam Gayatri (3 times) Meditation Asato Maa Messages Arathi ( The Arathi can be done by anyone, it doesnt matter if it change, the idea is to give opportunity to everyone, is wrong to say that ladies cannot do the Arathi, remember that for Swami there is no difference) Loka Samastha Vibhuti Prayer Announsments 1 om 3 shantis Hope these helps a little bit In Sai LOVE Andres ---------- Abburi Balakrishna <b_abburi Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:11pm Re: [saibabanews] Suggestion! Sai Ram. As far as I have experianced, we start with three times OMKARAM, then start with Ganesh Bhajan, then bhajan on Devi or Maatha & third a bhajan on Guru & then any Bhajan on any deity. At the end & last a bhajan on Subramanyam, followed by Sarva Dharma bhajan, & the Arathi. Three times Gayathri manthra is repeated followed by asathoma sadgamaya short prayer, then Loka samastha sukhinobhawanthu (may all be happy) & then Vibhuthi manthra. The imp thinng thing is one should maintain a strict descipline of starting the Bhajan in time & ending it in a specified time of say one hour or a bit lesser. On special occassions the timings may vary & prolong. I hope I am nat incorrect in this description but neverthless, I stand to any correction by any other devotee. Sairam: Sairam to all: As reg. the order in which bhajan is to be conducted, I found the one being adopted by you is fine. As reg. aarthi, I am sorry to note that the people from India opine that only a Man should perform it. I am sure, for our dear Sai Ma, all are equal.....it may be that men perform aarthi at Parthi.....but I am sure our beloved Ma would love it if a lady performs arthi too.....please, my dear fellow devotees, dont put any restrictions on the love we show for our Ma. Let these restrictions, rules and regulations not limit our love to our beloved Sai Ma. Dont bring discrimination between man and woman for showing our love to our Ma. Guest guest
Sairam. I am sorry if any body is hurt with my posting. I just replied to a brother, the practice being followed here at our centre. There is no restririctions. But normally brothers carry out the Aaratis and also our daily morning pujas in the centre is carried by only brhmin brothers [i mean brahmin by birth]. There must be some reason for above [aarati by brothers and pujas by brahmins]. I apologise again if i have hurt anybody's feeling due to my ignorance. Guest guest
Om Sai Ram Bro. Rao, I must say that this is a good system. A system must exist so that there is a clear understanding of what is happenin at the weekly bhajans. Discipline will set in and constructive suggestion will make its way as devotees get used to the system. Keep up the good work and for your info, we in Malaysia have a Bhajan Team that has been propagating and suggesting this systematic approach to conduct bhajans in order to inspire devotion towards our Lord in the hearts and minds of devotees of God. Guest guest
Sai Ram Brother Vishal Looking at your list and some of the others (and including the one I am showing below for our own Sai centre) what I see is a theme of Hindu rituals running through them and think we are losing the point somewhere. No wonder that those of us in countries with diverse populations, or with majority populations who do not understand these rituals, find only a few token determined individuals from the native and other peoples attending the centres - Why? Because the rituals are foreign to them and there is little to invite them and keep them there. Please examine what you are doing in terms of Swami's teachings of universality and apply them to local circumstances - do not create a 'gentlemen's club' with a comfort zone for those already in it and an ever increasing set of rules to alienate others. You should ignore calls for further ritualisation of your meetings and look at ways of welcoming all races, sexes and religions to your centre. For instance I don't see any mention of ensuring the inclusion of Sarva Dharma or Swahili bhajans/prayers/hymns - all I see on the face of it is a Hindu function which includes Sai Baba at the altar and offers obeisance to Him through the Arathi. This is just a brotherly suggestion as part of this discussion and by no means saying that we have perfected things at our centre in The UK. We too have similar issues but have had some concession made (such as inclusion of The Lord's Prayer and of English bhajans/hymns when anyone offers them). Change is very gradual as we have to contend with a resistant older generation, a middle generation too preoccupied with home, work etc. and a younger generation which turns away from all the rituals as it does not understand them. Our Swami expects Simplicity and Love - not inequality and polarisation. It is possible that the set ups we have adopted/adapted are ideal for centres in India dealing only with predominantly Hindu local populations and where inclusivity means prayer to the different deities close to the hearts of local devotees. With All Good Wishes Vinod The sequence we follow at Wembley (W London, UK - from 8 to 9.30pm on Thursdays) is: 3 Aums 108 Nanes of Sri Sathya Sai Baba 3 Gayatri Mantra 3 Sai Gayatri Ganesha Bhajan Guru Bhajan Various Bhajans (Sarva Dharma, Sai, Devi, Rama, Krishna, Siva, Hanuman, English - as offered on the day) Murugaa/ Subrahmanyam Bhajan 3 Aums Asathoma Prayer Om Tat Sat Arathi Loka Samastha Prayer The Lord's Prayer Vibhuti Mantra (& Vibhuti distribution) Mangalam Guru Devaye Prayer Thought for the Day Any Reading / Speaker / Announcements (according to time available)
Guest guest
Sairam dear family, All these discussions have been really interesting. However I have seen no mails/ suggestions/ thoughts from any of our 'Sai Bhajan Teachers/ Trainers' within our group. One that I am aware is Sister Madhavi (UK) , who I understand has also run some excellent bhajan workshops with Bros Vimal & others from Malaysia. Also what about Brother Hari? Please do share your thoughts with us sis Madhavi & bro Hari; and any others who have been involved in Sai Bhajans from a 'higher' perspective.Your input would be very much appreciated.
