Let us too will join with prayer for hurricane "Katrina" victims as it asked by the United Religious Community of St. Joseph County on September 3, 2005 in additional to our own regular groups prayers. The article in short, published in "South Bend Tribune" 3 September 2005 is below- The following are accepting help and donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Want to receive training and head south as a disaster-relief volunteer? Call the American Red Cross chapters in St. Joseph County (574-234-0191) and Marshall County (574-936-3928). Radio station WUBS-FM (89.7) is taking donations of bottled water, toiletries, cleaning supplies, bedding, clothes and Bibles. These are being packed into a semi-truck at the station, 702 Lincoln Way W., South Bend, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. Call for a pickup or information at (574) 287-4700 or toll-free at (866) 797-1794. A semi-truck will be set up at the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The EMA building is located at 9515 King Road east of Plymouth. According to Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer, donations of bottled water and ready-to-eat foods like cereal and granola bars will be accepted beginning 7 a.m. today until noon. Food will again be accepted beginning Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., he said. The food will be taken to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, repackaged and sent to help people in New Orleans, Overmyer said. The United Religious Community of St. Joseph County is asking everyone to stop and pray three minutes for hurricane victims at 11 a.m. (South Bend time) today and Sunday. Local resident David Romero will collect bottled water, flashlights, batteries, chain saws, pull-top canned food and protein bars from 8 a.m. to noon today at the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot, 316 Indian Ridge Blvd., Mishawaka. The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is collecting donations of full cases of water and full cases of cereal or granola bars. These may be dropped off from 7 to 10 a.m. today at WNDU Stations, 54516 Indiana 933, South Bend. Beginning Tuesday, they may be donated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Food Bank, 702 S. Chapin St., South Bend. Crossroads Community Church, just off U.S. 20 and at the intersection of county roads 17 and 18 in Goshen, is collecting bottled water, nonperishable foods and money, which will be sent to relief sites.
