Guest guest
Forwarding the message received from H2H team,Prasanthi Nilayam. Sairam ++++ Dear Reader, Loving Sairam from the H2H Team. Read today's message to know the secret of peace. Sai Inspires - 18th September 2005 When people view the world with the vision of love, they will have peace. All diseases will be cured. Most diseases have their origin in the mind. Everything has a psychological basis. When a person feels that something is wrong with him, he develops an illness. A healthy mind is needed for a healthy body. But it is not enough to be physically healthy. Man needs God's grace also. To acquire God's grace you have to cultivate the love of God. - Divine Discourse, 3rd June, 1995. Priorities in Life We trust our daily despatch SAI INSPIRES fills you with joy as you begin the day. We thought we would supplement it once a week during the weekend, with some footnotes about many things of relevance. We hope you would be able to spare a few moments for us then. This week, we would like to say a few words on Priorities in Life. There is a reason why we have chosen this topic. This is the week when the festival of Onam is celebrated in the State of Kerala in South India. For years, Onam was also one of the big festivals celebrated here in Prashanthi Nilayam, when thousands flocked. Onam is the occasion when the people of Kerala pay their homage to a great Emperor of the past named Bali. Once, Bali was performing a Yajna (sacrifice). During such rituals, a lot is given away by way of charity, and poor Brahmins invariably flocked to places where Yajnas were conducted. Bali was a man of great ego, and to teach him a lesson, the Lord appeared in the Yajna as a small Brahmin boy about thirteen or so. As the Emperor was giving away gifts, this boy named Vamana approached Bali. When the Emperor asked Vamana what do you want, the young Brahmin boy said, “I just want land to the extent of three steps I will take.” Bali said done. Bali’s Guru who was seated next to the Emperor saw this boy and immediately realised who that boy was. Hastily he told the Emperor not to give what the boy had asked for. Bali said no way since he had already given his word. The Guru warned that Bali would be finished because this was the Lord in disguise. Bali smiled and said, “Normally it is us humans who put forth our hand and ask the Lord. Here the Lord is stretching His hand and asking me; how can I say no?” When Bali gave the nod, Vamana took one step and with it covered the whole earth. Bali had to surrender the whole earth. With the next step, Vamana covered the entire sky and that also went to Him. Vamana then asked, “Where do I take the third step?” Bali bowed and offered his head. The Lord then placed His foot on Bali’s head; instantly the Emperor’s ego was annihilated and he was liberated. That is how the story goes. Swami has narrated this tale on many occasions and pointed out that although the scriptures advise one to follow the Guru, if it comes to a choice between God and the Guru, then one must follow God. Swami has similarly narrated other stories wherein the choice was God before father, God before mother, God before husband, God before brother, and so on. These stories that highlight priorities in life are very important for us today. We may not be faced with tricky situations involving family members, but we do face situations where it is a case of Truth [sathya] or Righteousness [Dharma] versus some private advantage for us. Since Sathya is God [wemustnotforgetwhatSwami’snameis!], it has always got to be Sathya and Dharma before anything or anyone else! That ought to be the priority for each and every one of us, always, at all times, and on all occasions! We are grateful to you for allowing us to be with you for a few moments. We realise you have many things to catch up with during the weekend and that you would also like to spend time with your family. Taking leave of you, we feel grateful to have the opportunity of serving Swami by bringing His Message to you. Today on RadioSai, Don't Miss!!
