Guest guest
ST. LOUIS MAYOR HAILS SAI BABA The city of St. Louis, (pop. 350,000) nestled in the heart of America, in the state of Missouri, gave the world its first skyscraper, and served the world’s first ice-cream cone. The famous poet T.S. Eliot and the playwright Tennessee Williams, among many others, are well-known residents of this “Gateway to the West” city. The State of Missouri in USA The CIty of St. Louis in Missouri The Gateway Arc of the City of St. Louis The city has already come to your notice, as last issue we covered the meticulously planned medical camp that was held in June and which received much praise from the city authorities. If you want to read it again, go here. Now St. Louis has heralded another first for the world. This is because its Mayor, Mr. Francis G. Slay, has proclaimed September 11th to be celebrated as Sri Sathya Sai Baba Day in the city. How did this come about? The Sai Organisation was holding a Public Meeting on that day to inform those attending about Swami, His Life and Mission. The Mayor had been invited, but then gave his apologies as he was out of town. However, he conveyed to the Sai Organistion that from thereafter Sri Sathya Sai Baba Day would be held every year in St Louis, in recognition of Swami’s humanitarian work. An official Proclamation was made by the Mayor to honour this City Day celebration. Please read the Proclamation; it is certainly a most respectful homage to our Beloved Lord. OFFICE OF THE MAYOR CITY OF ST LOUIS PROCLAMATION Whereas, The City of St. Louis has been apprised that Sri Sathya Sai Baba is celebrating his 80 th Birthday; and Whereas, Sathya Sai Baba is one of the most revered spiritual teachers in the world today whose life and message are inspiring millions of people throughout the world to turn God-ward and to lead a more purposeful and moral life; and Whereas, Sathya Sai Baba was born as Sathya Narayana Raju in Puttaparthi, a remote village in the state of Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. At the age of fourteen, he proclaimed his mission: to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-violence; and Whereas, Throughout his life work, Sathya Sai Baba has established an educational system which includes primary and secondary schools and an accredited university, offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees with no fees to the students.
