Model school impresses Draunidalo(Thursday, November 03, 2005)

THE students and teachers of one of Fiji's model primary schools have been

promised better infrastructure by Minister for Works Savenaca Draunidalo.

During a visit to the Sathya Sai School in the cane belt area of Johnson in

Drasa, about 15 kilometres from Lautoka, Mr Draunidalo said he would personally

ensure that plans were made to tarseal the road leading to the institution so

that its principles would reach more people in the community.

Mr Draunidalo said his commitment towards the development of the area's

infrastructure was cemented after learning of the principles behind the

school's development.

Sathya Sai School, which currently has a school roll of 136 students, was

established in 2000 by the Sathya Sai Service Organisation of Fiji, to provide

neighbouring poor communities with kindergarten and class one facilities.

Since then, the school has grown to include all levels till class six, with

construction underway to cater for classes seven and eight next year.

Apart from teaching the lessons under the Ministry of Education's curriculum,

teachers incorporate human values into the daily school program.

Ambika Prasad said the school was established as part of Sathya Sai

Baba's vision to change the way education was imparted to students.

Mr Prasad said by teaching students the basic human values of truth, right

conduct, peace, love and non-violence, teachers hoped they would be able to

help address Fiji's current social problems.
