Guest guest
SWAMI'S INFLUENCE ON YOUTH (2) Questions asked by V Balu (a devotee of Swami) K.S. Narahari was 19 yrs of age during the time he was interviewed. He was a Final B.Sc. student of the Sri Sathya Sai College in Whitefield, Bangalore. He has passed both the Pre-University years with first class (1974). In the first year of B.Sc he got 3rd rank in the University. Q Why did you join the Sai College? My parents are devotees and I used to go with them to see Baba. Even as a child I was inclined towards spirituality and religion. Though my parents asked me to join this college, I was also keen. Even if they hadn't asked, I would have still joined this College. I did not apply for any other college even though I secured 80% marks in the SSLC examination. Q What was the main attraction of the College for you? Baba, who answers my heart's call. Q Are you sure you have not been brain washed in this manner? No fears! Even when I had not seen Swami or heard his speeches, or gone near him, I had felt drawn towards him. I have not even read his books till now. Still, Swami's attraction has been there for me, even without me seeing him and this has become stronger after seeing him. I am able to experience an unseen power within Him. Q What do you think of Swami's miracles? I do not think anything of them for the biggest miracle is Swami Himself… Q What is the result of Swami's influence on you? There is a change in my thinking and outlook. I have improved physically. I gave up bad habits like waking up late in the mornings. Now I get up at 4a.m and I find that 6 hours sleep is sufficient. Such changed have helped me to remain in the pink of health and not being affected by cold, fever, etc. This is also experienced by other boys staying with me. A boy named Narayana Sharma had asthma trouble. As a senior boy I used to tell him that if he got up at 4:30a.m and took a cold water bath he would get relief and to his surprise, he found it helped him in overcoming his breathing trouble. Spiritually also I have improved. The other day I gave two shirts for stitching to the tailor. He promised he would return it in 2 days time. But he delayed it by a fortnight. I felt like to trouble him by delaying the payment. But then I remembered Swami telling us never to hit back…Soon I began to think that the tailor must have had his own problems and that I should not be mean. So I paid the tailor remembering Swami's dictum that when you trouble any one, you only harm God, because God is in everyone, be he a tailor or a votary of any other profession. Q Any differences between your college hostel and other hostels? Our lectures live with us and make their lives an example to us. We do not have any servants in the hostel. We maintain it ourselves and keep it clean. We also help in cooking and serving food. It is like a one happy family, caring for one another and sharing everything we have. Our lecturers are prepared to give extra coaching if a person is weak in a subject. They refuse to take any money for such service. Even at 12 in the night they are prepared to teach us. Their concern is that sincere! They give us opportunities to ask questions and do not put us down even when we ask inconvenient questions. Q If someone attacks Swami on any count how would you react? I would ignore the attacks on Swami, for if I hit back, I will not be following Swami's teachings. STUDENTS ARE MY PROPERTY --- BABA source: the glory of puttaparthi, V.Balu.
