Guest guest
Sai Ram .. Heres an interesting article that I wanted to share.. Devotees flock to see holy ash deitiesMiracle March 7, 2006By Yogas NairThree days after the holy observance of Maha Shivarathri, hundreds of devotees have been flocking to the Shivan Temple in Actonville, Benoni, to catch a glimpse of the images of Sathya Sai Baba, Hanuman, Ganesha and Parvathy, which had "miraculously" materialised in vibhutthi (ash) on the temple's 20-year-old lingum.Head priest for the past 19 years, Gurukkal Venketraman Iyer, 48, told POST "miraculous manifestations" had been happening at the temple, at the corner of Khan Crescent and Pillay Street, for the past five years. He described the Maha Shivarathri celebrations on February 26, as "spiritual bliss" and said the "appearance of the holy images" was a "sign God was present" and had "answered our prayers".Iyer said the celebrations started 10 days before the holy night and included daily prayer and abishegam (holy bath). On the auspicious day the prayer began at 4am with the chanting of mantras and abishegam. He said during the rituals, devotees saw images of Shirdi Baba and Parvathy, as he poured milk over the lingum. He said the lingum represented Lord Shiva (the destroyer of evil), Brahma (the creator of life) and Vishnu (the preserver of life).Iyer said: "At 6pm we had a hawan (holy fire) and the prayer continued until 6am the following morning." He said when the prayer was completed the lingum was decorated with rose petals and garlands of fresh flowers. "On March 1, I removed the flowers from the lingum to do abishegam. It was then that I noticed the faces of Parvathy, Sathya Sai Baba, Hanuman and a dancing Ganesha, imprinted in the vibutthi on the lingum." Iyer said the temple's lingum was consecrated 20-years-ago and was made of solid granite. "The lingum weighs more than 300kg and is over one metre in height and width.""We are in the dark age of Kali-Yuga and this is God's way of showing us the light."He said ever since the manifestation hundreds of devotees had been converging at the temple to see the faces of the religious deities. Last year, the face of Shakthi appeared in ash on the lingum and two years ago, inscriptions of Lord Shiva's Thrusoolam (weapon) appeared together with drawings of Mother Luxmi and Lord Hanuman on a religious cloth which was tied around the lingum. In November, Iyer also discovered an orange, offered as a prasad, with an inscription of Lord Ganesha on it. Benoni Tamil School Board vice-president for religion, Logan Pillay, 43, a businessman, of Mckenzie Park, Benoni, said he was a regular devotee at the temple and was "amazed" by the images of the deities on the lingumPillay said: "I am deeply spiritual and no words can described the feeling when I saw the faces on the lingum. It was an overwhelming feeling of emotion. To me it just reaffirmed God's presence."Devan Pillay, 37, of Brakpan, an operational manager, said he had spent the entire night at the temple and his sacrifice had "paid off".Pillay said: "It was an absolutely amazing feeling to see the faces of Ganesha and Sai Baba embedded in the ash. To me it was a sign God had answered my prayers and is ever present."
