Guest guest
CHILD PACIFYING MOTHER? Sometimes Baba would suddenly get into a furious temper and rage about. He would look the very embodiment of anger at those times. His eyes would burn red and he would curse all the devotees present and drive them away from the mosque. He would sometimes hit them too. Tatya was the only one who could approach Baba and pacify him when he was in such a temper. Sometimes even he would fail. Only Tatya and a couple of other intimate devotees could even approach Baba during these tempests. Sometimes Baba would suddenly start towards Neemgaon or Rahata. The devotees were always apprehensive that Baba may suddenly decide to leave Shirdi and were fearful that if Baba spent a night at either Neemgaon or Rahata, he would never in this life come back to Shirdi again. They would therefore run posthaste to Tatya wherever he was, whenever Baba started off from the mosque. Tatya would come running and meet Baba on the road and say, "Baba, if you go now, you will never come back. We are not going to let you go. You can go to Neemgaon or Rahata tomorrow. Please come back to the mosque now." Baba would then promise that he would definitely return to the mosque by the evening and send Tatya back. At times Baba would suddenly rise and say, "The vani telis (the oil merchants) are troubling me too much. I am no longer going to stay in this mosque." He would then take his alms bag, the tin and the satka and get ready to go away. The devotees would run to Tatya and inform him of this. Tatya would hurry to the mosque and pacify Baba as he would a child, "I will punish the vani telis. Please calm down. We can always go tomorrow." Baba would then calm down and again settle at the mosque as if nothing had happened. Every year dramatic performances were held at Shirdi in front of Chavadi. Tatya was an active participant in these dramas. He would normally play the part of a king. Buty would annually donate as much as 500 rupees to defray the costs. Many people would come from the surrounding villages to see these performances. Baba would sit at Chavadi and watch the show whenever Tatya was playing a part.
