Guest guest
YOU CAN BE A WINNER >From early childhood we are inbred with this idea that life is a race and someone must win. Each one of us in his own way, or in his own scheme of things, wants to be a winner. The urge to strive, to win, is inherent in all of us to a greater or lesser degree. Perhaps we waste our time, our money, our mental and physical energies in following up the struggle and sharing in the victories of others with more ability, more drive, more 'know-how' than ourselves. Perhaps we are to stand on the side and watch others run the race, engage in the struggle and fall or win as the case may be . Perhaps there is sometimes a sneaking sense of envy for the winner-a sense of relief that we are not the loser. Yet surely we are not content to go through life, just holding a watching brief? We too must be in the race, the turmoil, involved in the effort to achieve. The winner only knows in himself whether he is winning. It may not be for you or me to be in the forefront of life, to make headlines in the news, or even to be known to our smaller local communities as a success - a winner. But each man and woman has his race to run, his achievements to make, his goal to win. The choice is yours. it is waste of mental and physical energy to sit by the wayside, envying those who are racing by and achieving public recognition. Success is to the doers and the thinkers. Dreaming can be dangerous and play only a small part in any success. Look around, do the job and enter the race that lies to your hand. Cease to envy others, take a real look at yourself and weight up your talents. No one has everything nor ever will have. Everyone has something however small. Take stock of your talents; some have mental ability, others have health and physical strength; while many have a strong personality which carry them swiftly among the road to achievement. There are more opportunities today than ever before. No one need be without education or training, the doors are wide open to those who will reach out, seize them and then work. In your own small way, you can be a winner in that place where you find yourself, or in any niche you may work your way towards. The world may not shout your name aloud from the house-tops or print it in headlines, but whatever you do, however, small or lowly, if you achieve, then you are a winner! "What men want is not talent; it is purpose; not the power to achieve, but the will to labour."
