OM SAI

Hyderabad

23 January 1992

Letter - 23 ( Chapter - 25)

Dear Chakrapani,

Hemadri Pant elaborated on how Sri Sai, knowing the

future, advised HIS devotees in this chapter. The

moment the desire to write, about Baba's Leelas

(Divine Plays), arose in the mind of Sri Hemadri Pant

immediately BABA responded and made him write this

invaluable treatise. Baba did not immediately grant

HIS permission to me the moment desire arose in my

mind to let you know my experiences with Sri Sai

through these letters. I had started writing these

letters to you on 06.01.92 whereas Sri Sai gave HIS

consent on 22.01.92. I had mentioned this aspect in

detail in an earlier letter to you.

Once Damu Anna thought of giving a share of profits,

from a business venture contemplated by him, to Sri

Sai if HE blessed the proposed venture. Sri Sai,

knowing the thoughts going through Damu Anna's mind,

said - I AM NOT ALL INTERESTED IN THESE WORLDLY

MUNDANE MATTERS -. Thinking on these words of Sri Sai,

it becomes crystal clear that Sri Sai did not like

accepting bribes or share spoils from a speculative

venture. So we must always remember that as HIS

devotees we must never do things that were not liked

or approved by Sri Sai.

Recapitulate what Sri Sai said just before attaining

Mahasamadhi (act of Spirit departing at will from the

body of a Self Realized Soul) - EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT

EXIST IN THIS FORM, AFTER MY GOING INTO SAMADHI, MY

BONES WILL SPEAK FROM MY SAMADHI AND WILL MAKE YOU

BELIEVE IN MY PRESENCE. NOT ONLY ME BUT MY SAMADHI

ALSO WILL SPEAK AND FULFIL WISHES OF THOSE DEVOTEES

WHO SURRENDER ABSOLUTELY TO ME. DO NOT GET AGITATED

THAT I AM NO LONGER WITH YOU IN THIS PHYSICAL FORM, MY

BONES WILL SPEAK AND LOOK AFTER YOUR WELFARE. REMEMBER

ME ONLY AT ALL TIMES. HAVE FULL FAITH IN ME WITH YOUR

WHOLE HEART, MIND AND SOUL. ONLY THEN YOU WILL REAP

MAXIMUM BENEFITS -. These are the promised words of

GOD HIMSELF to HIS Devotees. You are also a devotee of

that GOD (Sri Sai). Remember always these words, they

will give you Unlimited strength. Go ahead in Life

with Courage.

In service of Sri Sai,

Your Father.

Sri Sai devotee Madhusudan Nori.

4. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

"SV.SWAMY" svswamy1 &

swamyswarna

12/1/2003 19:48:49 -0000

Sai Ram. Let us now continue with the inspiring story

of the Fakir. We saw in the previous article that Sai

was so liberal of mind and heart that He was not

minding cats and dogs from eating food from the same

pot as He. Blessed indeed is the life of such a Noble

Person. Indeed. But such behavior will be considered

'mad' by so called 'normal' society. People in Shirdi

took Him in the beginning for a mad Fakir. He was

known in the village by this name. And of course He

did not bother.

How could one, who lived on alms by begging a few

crumbs of bread, be revered and respected? But, this

Fakir was very liberal of heart and hand,

disinterested and charitable. Though, He looked fickle

and restless from outside, He was firm and steady

inside. His way was inscrutable. For ordinary people.

Whose senses were covered by the veil of Maya.

Still, even in that small village, there were a few

kind and blessed people, who recognized and regarded

Him as a Great Soul. One such instance was given by

Hemadpant. These souls recognised Him since they too

were advanced and took birth to play their part in

that wonderful drama, just like Vasudeva and Devaki,

Nanda and Yasoda took birth to play their parts when

Krishna decided to take birth in Brindavan. And King

Dasaratha, Kausalya, Vasishtha and Viswamitra etc.

took birth when Rama took birth in Ayodhya. Sai Ram.

Bayajabai's Brilliant Service

Sai Ram. Shri Hemadpant describes in detail how

Bayajabai, a great soul, took care of Sai, when His

fame was still not wide spread and when people were

not coming to Him for miracles and worshipping Him.

She could see through the external appearances and had

a soul-to-soul communication with Him. Baba also

responded to that soul-level communication of love.

Bayajabai's son Tatya also was another great soul, who

believed in Sai. It is apparent that these soul-mates

of Sai were with Him for many generations. Sai made

references to some such long-lasting relationships

elsewhere in Satcharitra. Sai Ram. It is interesting

to note that when Ramana went to Arunachala and when

He was still not famous, a few simple souls took care

of His physical body. And another great soul, Seshadri

Swamy. To see the greatness in another requires

greatness, greatness arising out of humility, in us.

After some years, Baba left going into the woods and

began to live in the village and take His food in the

Dwarakamai. Thenceforward, Bayajabai's troubles of

roaming in the jungles ended. Sai Ram.

Dormitory of Trio

Ever blessed are the saints, in whose heart Lord

Vasudeo dwells, and fortunate, indeed are the

devotees, who get the benefit of the company of such

saints. Tatya Kote and Bhagat Mhalsapati, equally

shared the company of Sai Baba. It is significant to

note that Mhalsapti was the first to greet Sai with

that name when the Fakir landed in Shirdi along with

the marriage party of Chand Patil. And Tatya, along

with his mother, Bayajabai, was among the few, who

worshipped Sai as a holy man and fed His body. It is

appropriate that Sai too took a special interest in

the spiritual development of these two and so He chose

a very special method, of sleeping with them in the

Dwarakamai.

If any of them showed sings of sleep, others would

wake him up. But we don't read an instance of Sai

sleeping and Tatya or Bhagat waking Sai. He was always

awake, especially spiritually. The physical waking up

was just a symbolism of the spiritual awakening. Sai

Ram.

In this way, for a period of 14 years, Tatya, leaving

his parents at home, slept in the Dwarakamai on

account of his love for Baba. A real growing up period

indeed. Which stood him in good stead for the rest of

his life.

Khushalchand of Rahata

Baba loved every one, but showed specially a little

extra love to some people, who were His spiritual

companions from many lives. Ganpat Kote Patil and

Chandrabhanseth Marwadi of Rahata, and his nephew

Khushalchand were among such privileged few, who

received Baba's love openly.

Shri Hemadpant introduces the all-pervading knowledge

of Sai by giving a small incident as a footnote, which

is dealt in more detail in a later chaper. And also

paved the way for the stories of the next chapter,

where Baba gave clear indications to His devotees

about when to leave or when not to leave. Sai Ram.

Baba did not depend on the physical sight or the

rational, logical, intellectual part of the mind.

Since He was One with all, He knew what was going on

everywhere. He gave many examples of such Oneness,

which people took to be some special mystical powers.

We shall take up these examples of His omniscience in

the next chapter, in the next issue of 'Glory of

Shirdi Sai' . Sai Ram.

--------------------------

A small note about holistic health

In the previous issues of Glory of Shirdi Sai, an

information item about holistic health was given where

a email address , saiheals was mentioned.

Sai devotees may kindly note that, that address has

been inoperative for some time. Devotees are requested

to write at svswamy1 or

swamyswarna. Sai Ram. Sai devotees may

kindly note that while information is freely shared

with them regarding various health systems and

medicines etc., the same is never a substitute to

qualified medical attention. And in the end, all

healing takes place only by Sai's grace. Sai Ram.

Yours truly,

SV Swamy

5. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

"Shashi": shashi_31

8. Pearls of Wisdom - the Moral Teachings of Baba

given to the Humanity.

Sri Sai Baba is personification of Love. Due to good

and bad deeds of our previous lives, we are born as

human beings. But we are still under the evil

influences of ignorance, immersed in the ocean of

impure life and are knocked down. To lift us from

impure life, Sri Sai Baba gave these moral Teachings

in His messages given to the writer while the later

was in meditation and asked him to spread these

Gospels throughout the country. The following are the

pearls of His sayings:

1. Don?t enslave yourself to ?DEHA BUDDHI?. Beware of

the ill effects of the senses. Do not inherit and do

not lead sinful lives with egoism and enslavement to

the sense of taste etc. Shed selfishness and have

faith in Supreme Philosophy. If you don?t want your

lives to be useless, shun the objects of Indriyas.

2. However you nourish your body, you cannot save it

from your ?DHARMA?. You will repent at the end if you

work to care for comforts. Know that the grasp of

philosophy of ?TEJA-TATWAM? is the supreme goal of

life.

3. Whatever work is to be done, do it with firm mind

for a firm result. As long as your mind does not find

peace, your feeling for the Self does not stabilize

and hence whatever work you attempt will be useless.

4. All the efforts of the strong and the weak are

possible only in this world. Papa and Punya, the

results of bad and good actions, pertain to these

mundane affairs and are not related to any other

state.

All the illusions, you see in this world is due to the

result of Sankalp, you make and all differences are

due to your mental attachment of detachment and your

seeing the illusion due to your partial perception. In

reality, Non-Duality is the basic fact and pervades

the whole Universe. Therefore, all of you make efforts

to see the equality underlying al the superficial

differences.

5. Do not try to pull down others. This is an obstacle

to your Sadhana Shakti. You will lose your innate

power, if you criticize others. Therefore, the

distinction and disparities among you are due to the

different levels of illumination in yourselves. You

must know this fact.

6. Merge your heart with your inner self. If you seek

revelations of DIVINE TRUTHS, you should control your

senses and only then will be possible. Therefore, fix

firmly in your mind the Teachings of Mine.

7. Know this world is false and transient. Worldly

pleasures are momentary and transitory. Whatever the

minimum is needed for your body, do that much and do

no get attached to it more. Make this your aim.

8. Do not think that your ideas only are good and try

to rub them on others head. Let nobody think that he

is greater than others. Know whatever you do, is done

by me only and not otherwise.

9. Learn to be charitable. Charity done in a holy

place will ensure your welfare. Charity done with

pride and ego is useless.

10. Indriyas always visualize the external world only.

If you want to have Self-Realization keep your mind

away from bad acts and make it one pointed without

wavering. Till you attain purity of your mind, you

will not get Self-Realization. All of you are caught

in bondage. To get released from this, by full faith

and then you will reach the ultimate goal. As long as

desire and greed are present, you cannot attain

God-hood. Out of egoism, if you do not get rid of

sense desires or if your mind is not pure, all

philosophical sayings become useless.

11. God is a subtle being. You must try to become as

subtle as possible. The more subtle you become, the

better, because by this way, you come very near God.

So try to become subtle.

12. Quick progress towards your goal is possible when

you destroy your own creation around you and then God

comes. If you want to lead a life of perfection, you

must always abjure falsehood and speak truth only.

Cultivate a liberal outlook.

13. Thoughts create the atmosphere.

14. Try to develop awareness and try to be alert to

what is happening. Then sensitivity will develop.

To be continued?

inquiry

Namaste, I am writing this from Toronto, Canada. I was

introduced to Sai just two years back and since then

he has been there for me in so many instances and I

would like to narrate one of them here. I just

delivered a baby girl 5 months back and my husband and

I was thinking about the names for our newborn in the

hospital. We had gone over hundreds of names and we

did not like any of them. I just thought in my mind I

wish there was a way Sai would tell me which name is

appropriate for my daughter. Just then the name Erica

came to my mind and I mentioned that to my husband.

He liked it immediately and then by chance he noticed

my slipper in the hospital room and said see Erica is

on the slipper. The brand name of the slipper was

'Erica' and I knew immediately Sai had showed in this

way the correct name for my daughter.

I washed the slipper and have kept it as a moment of

that moment.

8. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

Smt. MadhuGopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use

to play with children and used to tell stories to

them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be

entertained with good stories. So I have taken this

responsibility. Tell your parents to read the Glory of

Shirdi Sai - Fortnightly E-magazine and narrate you

the stories from this magazine.

THE HUNTER:

There lived a famous hunter near the forest of

Vindhya Range. He was a very sharp marksman and was

reputed to be able to shoot down flying pigeons but

had a passion for hunting deer.

As he reached the densest part of the forest, he came

across a huge wild boar. He was sure that it would not

go away from that place so he decided to get a deer

first.

After killing one with his bow and arrow, he slung the

carcass across his shoulder and went back in search of

the boar. It was still guzzling on the fallen berries

when the hunter shot an arrow at the animal from some

distance.

Wild boars are very ferocious animals and even after

the arrow had pierced deep into its throat it turned

and charged at the hunter. It was the biggest of all

boars in the forest and as it struck the hunter low

down with its tusks, the sheer force of the impact

broke the hunter's back and sent him flying into the

berry tree.

The boar gored him again as he fell and then collapsed

struggling in the last throes of life. The fierce

encounter disturbed a python snake living in a hole

under the tree. As it came out to see the cause for

all the disturbance, it got trampled under the

thrashing feet of the dying boar.

So now there was the deer, the hunter, the wild boar

and the snake all dead and lying around the base of

the berry tree.

A jackal passed that way. By a queer quirk of fate, it

had been hungry since the last three days and had

survived by eating two small rodents it had managed to

kill a week back and bury nearby.

As he saw the four carcasses strewn around, he went

dizzy with delight but the strains of an empty stomach

and a hot after noon made him faint.

After coming around he started planning his feast and

thinking about the cycle of life and the games it

played. Hunger had been his companion ever since he

had grown up to adulthood and he could hardly remember

a week where he had eaten heartily all seven days. And

now here was a stock of food that would feed him for a

month but how to go about it was the question in his

mind.

When some one is very much in need of something and

gets too much of it, it becomes difficult for him to

manage this excess. This was the doldrum faced by the

jackal at that moment. He sat confused and in deep

thought under the tree. In the end he reached the

conclusion that - " For the 1st week, I will eat the

hunter and then after finishing him, I will start on

the deer, then the boar and ultimately the snake.

Today, for starters, I will eat the bow string, after

all it is also made of leather".

The greedy jackal had decided and bit the end of the

bow string, drawn the taut. The moment the bow string

snapped, the taut bow jumped and pierced the stomach

of the jackal and he lay dead, the fifth corpse under

the tree.

A mynah bird sitting on the branch, had been witness

to the series of events turning five living beings

into dead meat. She burst out laughing surprising the

tree.

The tree asked, "Why do you laugh dear Mynah? Don't

you have any sympathy for the these dead creatures?"

The Mynah answered, "Dear tree! I have all sympathy

for these dead ones but there is a lesson also to be

learnt by us".

If the hunter had been satisfied with the deer and not

been greedy for the boar, he would be living. If the

jackal had not been greedy and made plans for the

whole month, he would have been satisfied with the

deer only and remained alive.

LESSON: 'Excessive greed kills the greedy.' So greed

should not become an important part of your character.

9. ARTICLES FROM SAIDEVOTEES:

Arun Reddy" : arunreddy_n

Mon, 17 Nov 2003 02:11:30 +0000 (GMT)

BABA ATTAINING SAMADHI (leaving His gross body)

It was 15th of October of the year 1918, on Tuesday at

about 2.35 in the afternoon that the Supreme Master,

Sai Baba of Shirdi breathed His last. His

self-allotted labour of love in His gross body was

perhaps finished. The last words that He uttered were

that He should be taken to an adjoining 'wada'

(building) as He did not feel well in the Dwarakamayi.

As the Master shed His gross body all men and women

plunged into agonizing grief.

Baba had given indication of the approach of His

'Mahasamadhi' (shedding His mortal body) in as early

as 1916 on the same day, that is the day of Dussehra

(a festival in India marking the victory of Good over

evil).

Surprisingly, the 15th October 1918, The departure of

Baba on such a day was symbolic of His universal

approach to human problems cutting across all

religions, nationalities, castes, social

differentiation and all such manmade barriers.

After Baba passed away there was a dispute about how

and where Baba's mortal remains should be interred.

At the end, all disputes and controversies were sorted

out and all devotees decided to inter the body of

the Master in ?Buti Wada?, as desired by the Master

Himself. The physical body of the gracious Guru, the

Supreme Master, was laid to rest in the central hall

with due formalities, sanctity and honour, but His

Eternal Spirit rises from the tomb to proclaim to His

followers again and again the indisputable evidence of

His resurrection and life. The Supreme Master had

often promised and assured that His tomb would speak

and move with those who made Him their sole refuge.

His final rest is in Samadhi Temple, which is open to

all caste, creed and religion as a Gateway to God.

The sound of eternity emerged from Baba?s heart every

limb, every bone and every pore of His body.

"K.Varadarajan" kvaradarajank

Our Beloved Sri Saibanisa,

Pranams to The One with whome SriSainath Maharaja has

already given His Merciful Grace and shown His divya

Swaroop. You are available with us and that's the

Greatest joy in us! There's no word thro' which we can

express our happiness on seeing your valuable mail,

yes, it's heartening to see your mail in our computer

naming us as Sai Bhandus! We take it for granted that

SriSaiNath, Himself is calling us to speak about His

magazine!!!

Every week we are waiting for the Magazine to dip

ourselves in the articles therein and mind us on Sai

wholeheartedly till we complete them entirely!

Your kind words/ advice to walk on the path of Sai for

receiving His Grace and to gradually detach from the

mundane existence...

The dreams, the experiences of the devotees at various

occasions on how Sai Mharaj leads every one in this

world are all the essence with which we are, step by

step, getting immersed in Sai World.

Please continue to take us to His world and that we

are becoming one of the devotees like you!

With more and more pranams,

kvaradarajan,

Sai Ram Uncle, It is really nice to know that "The

Glory of Shirdi Sai" will be completing one year on

01/01/04. Moreover, the day happens to be a Thursday.

>From the inner core of my heart I would like to

congratulate Saidarbar team for this excellent work.

Moreover wish you all the best for future work. I

would like to convey something to all Sai bandhu's....

In today's world, we read several books on

Management,marketing skills, positive attitude etc....

But prior to being good professionals in respective

fields, let us be good HUMAN BEINGS. And believe me,

reading the "GLORY OF SHIRDI SAI" would be the best

way to do it. Each and every part of this newsletter

carries morals and values. It might be the case that

you may not be able to read the letter in one go...

and there is no rush. We should be reading it in bits

and pieces, but the same must be done on daily basis.

May BABA bless you all and your families- Vikas

Malhotra (Sai Devotee)
