3. SAI PHILOSOPHY:

SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA.

These messages are the outcome and essence of the

dream sequences of Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath,

which reflect the Sai Philosophy and his high

thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are

generally thought provoking, enough to set one?s

thinking process.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY

66) 28thSeptember, 1996: Once the journey through the

life is completed, the physical body is given a final

wash. Where as in the beginning of the journey through

ADHYATMA (spiritualism) the dirt in the heart is to be

cleansed.

67) 10th Oct, 1996: Construct a beautiful house on the

foundation of past experiences and live in it with

peace and awaiting a good future.

68) 11thOctober, 1996: When you work with full faith

in the company of "JEETENDRA" (the person who

conquered the five senses) there is nothing more left

to learn about "ADHYATMA" (Spiritualism)

69) 5thOctober, 1996: Thieves rob your house.

Relatives rob your physical labor. Wife and children

rob you emotionally. Diseases rob you of your physical

body. Only thing that remains is "ATMA" (Soul).

Knowing about immortal Atma is knowing thyself.

70) 14thOctober, 1996: On feeling hungry you spend

money and satisfy your appetite without a second

thought in the mind. When you are invited for taking

food, you start thinking about his cast and creed. Is

it justified?

OM SAI

Letter - 30 (Chapter - 32)

Dear Chakrapani,

Sri Hemadri Pant described very well the relationship

and dependency between Guru (Preceptor) and Shishya

(student / seeker) in this chapter. Sri Sai narrated

in detail the relationship between him and his

preceptor. I will not write elaborately on this aspect

but will narrate couple of incidents from my life, so

please read on carefully. Your mother taught you to

play, speak and sing during your childhood. During

your adolescence your teacher educated and taught you

to think for your self in the school. Nature taught

you the skills for survival. You obtained all these

skills from others. You must make this human existence

of yours meaningful. A qualified Sadguru (Good

preceptor) is essential for showing the way to make

the human existence meaningful. Our Sai Baba is that

Samartha Sadguru (Able and qualified preceptor). We

must read very carefully the episode in this chapter

in which the way Sri Sai, while moving around

aimlessly along with 3 of his friends in a forest

called ignorance, behaved and followed his Guru

(Preceptor) for seeing the light of knowledge. We can

realize the inescapable need for a Preceptor for

driving away the darkness of ignorance by

contemplating deeply on this episode. Remember forever

what Sri Sai said in this episode. His words are

- The search for anything on an empty stomach will not

succeed. No one will appear in front of us on the way

unless GOD wills it. Never refuse the food offered.

Plate on which food is served should not be pushed

away. Being offered food by someone is a good omen.

You must be remembering the way you used to behave

while eating at the dining table in our house. You

used to be bad tempered saying that the dishes cooked

by your mother were not delicious. I used to remind,

at those times; you that Sri Sai had said that FOOD

are a form of ETERNAL GOD. You have grown up now and

can understand things without my telling you. Think of

Sri Sai before commencing eating your meal. HE will

take care of you and show you the correct path to

follow. Well we are anyway discussing about food, so

there is a need to know the views of Sri Sai on this

subject. Sri Hemadri Pant wrote thus in

This chapter - Sri Sai never observed fasting. HE

never permitted others to fast. Mind of a fasting

person will not be steadfast. How can such a person

realize the inner significance of being born as a

human being? One cannot realize or visualize GOD on an

empty stomach-. This does not mean that one should

overeat and become obese like an overfed fat horse,

which cannot easily move. Sri Hemadri Pant describes

these aspects in Sri Sai's words in this chapter thus

- Neither fasting nor overeating is good. Limited and

moderate eating habit is good for both the body and

the mind-.

There is another episode in this chapter describing

Sri Sai's childhood as narrated by HIM. He says that

Sri Sai was employed to do embroidery on cloth. His

employer (GOD) paid him a salary of Rs. 600.00. 600

rupees can be

Interpreted as 600 years and the work embroidery on

cloth can be interpreted as bringing our lives on to

the path of righteousness. GOD has created us all as

an ordinary cloth and sent us on to this earth. HE

sent good artisans such as Sri Sai to this earth for

doing fine embroidery on ordinary cloth, implying that

to bring human beings on to the path of righteousness.

Sri Sai is Yogiraj (King of GOD realized souls)

amongst Yogeeswaras (GOD realized soul). It is indeed

our good fortune, that

We have taken recourse at the feet of such a Supreme

GOD realized soul. HE

Will do fine embroidery on the ordinary cloth of our

life and will set them on the right path. GOD must

have sent HIM on to this earth for carrying out this

task for 600 years. I have heard someone saying that

GOD has also sent Sri Raghavendra Swami (a venerated

Saint of South India) to this earth for teaching the

path of devotion for 600 years to people. That is why,

even though Sri Raghavendra Swami is not alive

anymore, HIS faithful devotees believe that HIS

Pavitra Athma (Holy spirit) is still around guiding

them. Sri Hemadri Pant had stated that Sri Sai was

probably born during 1838 AD. So HIS Pavitra Athma

(Holy Spirit) will be around this earth up to 2438 AD

and forever save HIS devotees from calamities. What I

have written now, I have not read from any book, no

one has told me so and it is purely my imagination and

interpretation.

I will narrate a small incident for giving validity to

my imagination. Sri Sai never permitted anyone to mend

his torn robes. HE mended his torn robes himself using

a needle and thread when he was alone during

afternoons in Dwarakamayi. What is the significance of

this? Just contemplate on this question. Sri Sai's

mending torn robes implies that somewhere HIS

devotee's life is in turmoil and HE is setting that

devotee's life in order. Let us believe this to be

true.

In service of Sri Sai,

Your father

6.SAIBANISA'S THOUGHTS ON GRUHASTHASRAMA:

http://www.saidarbar.org/discourses/2b.jpg

Sri Shirdi Saibaba practiced celibacy through out his

life. BABA advocated his devotees to follow the

traditions of family life in order to achieve social

harmony. This alone will help in building a healthy

society and usher alround happiness in one's life.

Baba wanted his devotees to fulfill their moral and

social obligations called for in the materialistic

World and then to work towards the ultimate i.e.

reaching the God. Incidentally a major portion of

Baba's devotees are from those who follow

'Gruhasthasrama' without any hindrance. Saibanisa

Gopala Rao Ravada has read a number of Books and

literature on this particular topic by different

authors and desires to put his ideas before you all.

Hence an attempt is made to high light his

observations on this subject, aptly titled as '

Saibanisa's thoughts on Gruhasthasrama'. We earnestly

hope that our readership will appreciate and encourage

our efforts.

Raghu Raman Satulury

26.The legacy and good traditions of family should be

passed on to the younger generations from time to

time.

27.Dependence on others for leading one?s life is

treacherous. Independence gives lot of

self-satisfaction and pleasure.

28.Good education comes by study and hard work. Sense

of sacrifice leads to honor and following the path of

truth gives riches. Good deeds emanate from a healthy

mind.

29.An introvert is fragile like an earthen pot. It is

easier to punish him rather than putting him on the

right track. So let us keep of from the evils of the

society.

30.All the accomplices and relations are a result of

vrunanubandha. And they separate out after it?s

fulfillment. Wise should not lament on those temporary

relations

8.QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

"Shashi": shashi_31

21. Identify yourself with Me and be free from all

attachment.

22. Always say Raja Ram, Raja Ram. If you do so, your

life will be fruitful. You will attain peace and

Infinite God.

23. Once Baba said to M.W. Pradhan, say ?Sri Ram, Jaya

Ram, Jaya Jaya Ram?.

24. One who loves God, would weep, laugh, or dance

singing songs in praise of God.

25.Adhere to VAIRAGYA. Avoid moha and pomp. Think of

God only and kill the ego. Then only can one get God

Realization.

26. You must be honest, upright and virtuous. You must

distinguish the right from the wrong.

You must attend to your daily duty only as ordained

by God. You must not be obsessed with egotism and

fancy that you are the independent cause of your

action. You must all recognize God?s independence and

your dependence on Him only. See al acts of yours as

His. If you do so, you will be unattached and free

from the Karmic bondage.

27. Do not be idle. Work always. Utter God?s name and

read Adhyatmic books.

28. If one is angry with another, he wounds Me. If

anyone abuses another, I feel the pain. If anyone

bravely endures the abuse, I feel highly pleased.

29. If anybody comes and abuses you or punishes you,

do not quarrel with him. If you cannot endure it,

speak a simple word or two, or leave the place. But do

not battle with him and give tit for tat. I feel sick

when you quarrel with others.

30. If anyone talks ten words, answer with one word.

Do not pick a quarrel with anyone.

10. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:

3/06/2004 04:33:22 -0700

sathya_1611

My Experience

I have always read with awe and a little envy whenever

people have narrated the dreams that they have had of

Baba either preaching or saying something. Today, I

feel really delighted and blessed as Baba had come to

me in a dream. Of course he did not appear as the

physical entity we identify with (not as a kind eyed

bearded fakir) but as a woman. But please read on to

know how I knew it was my Baba who appeared in my

dream (It is said that dreams we have in the morning

come true. I had this dream in the morning).

I will start from the part I remember clearly. There

was more prior to this, but I do not remember. I am

walking on a street (lots of small houses and shops)

and I do not know where I am going but as I am walking

ahead lots of obstacles come my way (I know that they

are placed there for me) and somehow I manage to over

come those obstacles. I see a woman across a wall and

one of the obstacles comes from where she is standing

and I ask her to be cautious. Then I enter an

apartment building. I do not know who I am going to

meet but I go in and go to the first floor, look

around then the second and as I climb to higher levels

the steps become narrower. Then I start descending

and on the last floor there is the lady I met on the

road sitting with a few children. She looks at me

with a smile and starts speaking to me. I don?t know

why but I refer to her as Baba and she tells me that

all things will be fine and that after a small period

of struggle (she did mention the period but

unfortunately I do not remember) lots of good things

are going to happen. She also tells me that I will see

death but this somehow did not disturb me but made me

remember the story where while giving a fruit to a

devotee Baba says that ?eat it and you will die?

(where he meant the death of ego). Then she said that

as I am so devoted, my devotion would pay off. I don?t

remember all what she said but it was a long talk and

then I asked her if I should consider a job offer that

has come my way. Now this is what made me realize

that it is definitely Baba talking because she said

"You are talking of rags when I am giving you such

wonderful opportunities" The rags part of it struck a

cord and reminded me of the story in satcharita where

Baba talks of stealing rag. After this I see myself

leaving the apartment trying to go back home and

that?s when I woke up.

Dear bhaktas, is there any doubts in your minds that

this was not Sai ma talking. After I woke up I took

the Satcharita and with a prayer to confirm that it

was Baba who came in my dream I randomly opened a page

and the message that came up was the one where Baba

says ?This masjid is Dwarakamaayi and whoever sets

foot here is safe and no calamities will befall upon

them? (These are not the exact words but I am sure you

all know the paragraph I am referring to). In the

dream I met this divine lady in a residential

apartment building. What better proof does one need!

Baba, thank you for giving this insignificant servant

of yours such a wonderful experience. Are there any

boundaries to your motherly love and affection for

your humble devotees? My sincere wishes and prayers

that all you Sai bakthas out there should come in

contact with the wonderful spirit lifting experiences

of Sai.

11. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg

Smt. MadhuGopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use

to play with children and used to tell stories to

them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be

entertained with good stories. I have told you 24

stories during the year 2003. Baba told before He took

His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like

to play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His

devotees. So I will start Krishna Leelas with effect

from this first issue of New Year 2004. I Wish you all

A Happy New New year 2004. Study well and learn good

manners. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi

Sai - Fortnightly E-magazine and narrate Krishna

Leelas from this magazine.

KILLING PUTANA:

When Nand was returning from Mathura Vasudev had told

him that he should reach Gokul soon as there might be

some trouble at home. Meanwhile, Kansa had a

discussion with his advisors and sent a witch who knew

the witchcraft to kill infants ? her name was Putana.

She was a ?Khechari? who is a special witch who can

fly in the sky. They sit on the branches of uprooted

trees and reach various places.

So Putana reached Gokul and disguised as a beautiful

woman entered the mansion of Nand where infant Krishna

was lying his cradle. Putana picked up little Krishna

and let him suck her nipples. Since Krishna already

knew that she had come kill him by applying poison on

her nipples, he closed his eyes and started sucking

milk. In this process he even sucked her breath and

she fell dead on the ground. Her beautiful body soon

turned into its original form of a witch, seeing which

everyone present there became terrified. Yashoda

started crying and immediately picked up Krishna from

Putana?s lap. When she saw that he was alive and

smiling then only she became normal. It was then that

people came to know of a secret plan to kill little

Krishna. But Krishna had divine powers and instead he

killed Putana herself.

When Putana died there was a thunder all around and

the earth shook. Putana?s body, which was twelve miles

long, fell on earth. She had long black hairs and her

nostril were like two dark caves. Many trees were

crushed under her body. All the cowherds and gopis of

Gokul were surprised and terror- struck at seeing her

gigantic body. Krishna was then purified with cow?s

urine and dust where cows had moved. Then all of them

prayed to gods to grant him long life. Nand then

recalled what Vasudev had said to him earlier.

True people of Gokul cut Putana?s huge body into

pieces, which were burnt. When the other people got

the smell of the burning body they enquired about it

and thus came to know the incident. But the smell

coming from Putana?s body was sweet as Krishna blessed

her by sucking her milk.

12. ARTICLES FROM SAIDEVOTEES:

HUNDRED YEARS OF URUS OR FAIR THAT LATER DEVELOPED

INTO RAMA-NAVAMI FESTIVAL AT SHIRDI - Lt. Col. M. B.

Nimbalkar (Retd.)

Article appeared in the Sai Leela Magazine

May-Jun-1997

Saibaba used to conduct Urs on Ram Navami to Establish

religious tolerance In those days. It seems that he

had incarnated to teach the same and to uplift the

mankind from religious disturbances. This year Ram

Navami Utsav was celebrated in Shirdi from 15 to 17

April 97. Ram Navami Utsav was started in 1912; but

the Urs or fair that later developed into Ram Navami

Utsav was started at Shirdi In 1897. This year the

fair completed its 100 years. Story of Urs and Ram

Navami Utsav...

ORIGIN: One Mr. Gopalrao Gund, a Circle Inspector at

Kopergaon, was a great devotee of Sai Baba. He had

three wives but no issue. With Sai Baba's blessings, a

son was born to him. In the joy that he felt regarding

the event, an idea of celebrating a fair or Urs

occurred to him in the year 1897 AD and he placed it

for consideration before other Sai devotees viz. Tatya

Patil, Dada Kote Patil and Madhavrao Deshpande. They

all approved of the idea and got Sai Baba's permission

and blessings. Then an application for getting the

collector's sanction for celebrating the Urs was made

but as the village Kulkarni reported against holding

the fair, the application was rejected. But as Sai

Baba had blessed it, they tried again and ultimately

succeeded in getting the collector's sanction.

Permission was obtained but other difficulties cropped

up. Shirdi was a village and there was a scarcity of

water. There were two wells in the village, the one

used, dried up and the other's water was brackish. Sai

Baba turned this brackish water sweet by throwing

flowers into it. The water of ink well was

insufficient, so Tatya Patil had to arrange to get

water from a well by fixing Moats (leather Sacks)

thereon at a considerable distance. Then temporary

shops had to be constructed and wrestling bouts

arranged. Gopalrao Gund had a friend by name Damu Anna

Kasar of Ahmednagar. He also was similarly unhappy in

the matter of progeny though he had two wives. He too

was blessed by Sai Baba with sons and Mr.'Gund

prevailed upon him to prepare and supply one simple

flag for the procession of the fair; he also succeeded

in inducing Mr. Nanasaheb Nimonkar to supply another

embroidered flag. Both these flags were taken in

procession through the village and finally fixed at

the two ends or corners of Dwarka Mai. This tradition

is kept up even today for the last 100 years by the

families of the above - mentioned two gentlemen by

sending two new flags to Shirdi Sansthan every year.

SANDAL PROCESSION: There was another procession

started in this fair. This idea of 'Sandal' procession

originated with one Mr. Amir Shakkar Dalai, This

procession is held in honor of great Muslim Saints.

Sandal i.e. Chandan or sandal-wood paste and scrapping

are put in a Thali (flat dish) and are carried with

incense burning before them in procession to the

accompaniment of band and music through the village

and then the contents of the dishes are pasted with

palms of the hands on the walls in Chavadi, Dwarka

Mai, Samadhi Mandir, Gurusthan and Abdul Baba's Tomb.

During these ceremonies the devotees of all religions

stand side by side respectfully to allow devotees to

perform the rites.

..

BATHING BABA'S SAMADHI WITH GODAVARI WATER: Since 1934

AD on the suggestion of Das Ganu Maharaj, some

villager devotees from Shirdi started going to

Kopargaon to collect pure water of Godavari River in

pitchers and bringing it back walking and -carrying

the pitchers on Kavadies to pour it on Baba's Samadhi.

As the years passed by, the number of such devotees

increased and now hundreds of such devotees line up on

return near Samadhi Mandir" and are welcomed by the

chairperson and trustees of the Sansthan.

CONCLUSION: Although as the years passed by, the

Rama-Navami celebrations have become more prominent,

the Urs celebrations have not been forgotten. The flag

procession and the Sandal procession are still held

with the same vigour and enthusiasm. In the village

also, wrestling bouts are held and fire works arranged

at the Sansthan's expenses. Thus, the Urs and

Rama-Navarhi are both celebrated together at Shirdi

for the last 100 years.

of Sri Ramanavami in Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in

Old Alwal, Secunderabad at 7:30 P.M on 22-03-2004. He

is going to talk on Sri Ramanavami in the days of Lord

Sainath.

2. Saibanisaji will be addressing the devotees of Sri

We all know that Shirdi Saibaba encouraged His

devotees to read Jnaneshwari (Bhagavad-Gita). For the

benefit of the Sai devotees, Saidarbar came to an

understanding with American Gita Society, Fremont,

California, USA, for starting the correspondence

15. FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK:

Dear Saibandhus,

Sairam. I intend to draw your kind attention to the

fact as depicted in Sai Satcharitra that our beloved

Sainath has performed all the rituals connected with

Sri Ramanavami celebrations during the years

1912-1918. Many of his devotees identify Baba with

Lord Sri Ram and it is common practice for them to

utter Sairam in every walk of life. I am sure all of

us do the same sometimes involuntarily and enjoy the

supreme bliss and at the same time ease ourselves from

the tensions at least temporarily.

By doing so we practice both ?Smarana and Sravana?,

simultaneously as they are the simplest way of

reaching God. As told in our epics. God comes in to

this Universe in some form or other whenever there is

an unbalance and people forget their ?Dharma?. Lord

Sri Ram is one such incarnation of God in Tretahyug

and on parallel we have our Lord Sainath in the

Kaliyug. To emphasize this fact, Saibanisa, the

founder member of Saidarbar, Hyderabad has lectured

extensively on this particular topic both in India and

abroad. Encouraged by the excellent response and as a

part of our endeavor to spread Sai Philosophy,

Saidarbar,Hyderabad is coming out with a novel idea of

bringing out a VCD covering this particular topic

titled as ?Sai in Ramayana? for the spiritual benefit

of devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba.

We are initially planning to distribute the ?VCD FREE

OF COST? to the overseas devotees for the first 101,

approaching us before 30-03-2004,the Sri Ramanavami

day. However, we expect the devotees to incur the

minimum charges of US dollars-TWO or equivalent to

meet the expenditure towards postage.

For further details, please feel free to contact
