Guest guest
KNACK OF LIVING Baba “taught all the people how to act, and behave in this world” –Sri Sai Satcharitra, Ch. XVI, XVII. The Lion, the king of animals, one day called all his subjects to his court, a vast, smelly cave. The bear felt nauseated by the smell and held his nose. The lion was offended and gave him a blow that knocked him senseless. "Does my court smell that bad?" he asked the monkey. "Not at all, Your Highness," said the monkey, ingratiatingly. "I would say your court smells like a bouquet of flowers." The lion knew this was not possible and knocked him senseless too. The other animals, including a fox, began to sidle out of the cave but the lion caught the fox's tail and pulled him back. "Let us have your opinion," he said. "Does my court smell?" "I have a terrible cold, Your Highness," said the fox, forcing a sneeze. "I cannot smell a thing so I cannot tell you whether your court smells or not." The lion liked his clever reply and gave him an important post at his court. TAMASO MA JYOTIRGAMAYA…. PROMOTE GOOD SLEEP NATURALLY Sleep, hunger, thirst and similar characteristics are described in Ayurveda as natural and the answer to these problems is not to be found in synthetic medicines. In old age, one usually gets less sleep and normally the hours of sleep will not be as many as in young or middle age. If there are no specific reasons for such fear, worries and anxieties and yet you do not find yourself happy after getting up in the morning, but feel that you have not had enough sleep, then the following measures will help you. Take regular bath, especially at bedtime. Before bath, massage your body with Mahaana-araayana tailam and Aswagandhaadi tailam mixed together, and do yoga asanaas. Shavasana will help a lot. Avoidance of gaseous diet consisting leafy vegetables, salads and beans, green peas, potatoes, too much of rice, heavy meal is also necessary. Take Draakshaarishta, 15 ml with equal quantity of water after principal meals. Your bowels then move freely. However, if you still have constipation, take powder of Triphala, 2-3 teaspoonfuls, at bedtime. Massaging of the soles with either caster oil or cow’s ghee at bedtime with the help of a copper vessel is good for the eyes and induces sleep. You can, in addition, take any tonic for old age – Aswagandhaadi lehyam will be ideal. Drink cow’s milk. This is a boon for old age.
