Guest guest
Dear devotees, I have recently been informed by a representative of Motilal Banarsidass Publishers that an English translation of the Bhavishya Puraana is on the press and is due out by the end of this year. Some of you may know that Nag Publishers has been faithfully reproducing the Venkateshwara Steam Press editions of the various Puraanas in Sanskrit. These are compiled in hardbound covers in the horizontal style that is reminiscent of traditional manuscripts. At least some of these Nag/Venkateswhwara editions are meant to be "critical editions." Motilal Banarsidass has been publishing English translations of the above editions. Of course, they are secular translations, and thus anyone choosing to use them must read them carefully as the translators tend to misinterpret many statements as leading towards impersonalist conclusions. The Bhavishya Puraana is of special interest to us, however, since it contains within it the scriptural evidence describing Lord Chaitanya's unmanifest pastimes. Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur has written in his Navadviipa Mahaatmya that Lord Chaitanya instructed both Shrii Raamaanuja and Shrii Madhva to propagate their specific sampradaayas long before He made His own appearance. Maadhvas and Shrii Vaishnavas do not accept these accounts, but Bhaktivinod Thaakur's mention of them is based on passages from the Bhavishya Puraana in which these things are explicitly spelled out.
