Guest guest
In the Upanisads it is stated, nayam atma bala-hinena labhyah. The purport is that one cannot attain the supreme platform of self-realization without being sufficiently favored by Balarama. Bala does not mean physical strength. No one can attain spiritual perfection by physical strength. One must have the spiritual strength which is infused by Balarama, or Sankarsana. (Srila Prabhupada, Krsna Book Ch. 2) Be strong, my young friends, that is my advice to you. You will be nearer to heaven through football than through the study of the Gita. These are bold words, but I have to say them, for I love you. I know where the shoe pinches. I have gained a little experience. You will understand the Gita better with your biceps, your muscles, a little stronger. (The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Vol.III, p. 242). Both are saying the same thing in a different way.If Arjuna was not strong enough physically to carry the great gandiva bow, would he be chosen to be a disciple of Krishna under such circumstances as the battlefield of Kurukshetra? It is by the blessings of Sankarsana that Arjuna was strong physically, and by Krishna's direct blessings he was also gifted with the divine insight required to understand the Gita perfectly.Arjuna attained the Supreme platform,by qualifying physically, as well as mentally.
