I remember quoting a passage a long time ago describing the alternate

meanings of "Hare" in the Mahaa-mantra, and posted the question as to

how there could be different meanings of "Hare" or "Raama" and so

forth.

 

The answer was simply, why not?

 

Indeed, as I reconsider it, there need not be a single understanding

of the mantra, just as there need not be only one form of the Lord

whom devotees worship. But any understanding of the mantra must be

derived from shaastric statements, needless to say.
