Guest guest
Dear Devotees, The Vedas are not mundane works, it has not been spoken chronologically by Maha Muni Sri Srila Suka Deva Goswami, hence I would argue that a Vedic timeline may not be an appropiate measurement. Let's ponder further : Historical and Geographical data's of our planet can be plotted on a horizontal line with time and places but that is not possible in case of the Vedas. The Vedas transcends time. Some of it are about Kali Yuga, others are of Satya Yuga and many other narrations are in between or even before the creation of our planet. Then the Vedas move on into the future and predicts more then 400,000 years ahead till the end of Kali Yuga. Then again many of the events are not in the same Yuga cycle, not even in the same Kalpa( one day of Brahma and who can plot such a long duration). There are references of history in other planets, there are references of wars in other part of the universe, they have been spoken in Demi Gods time as well as time of upper and lower planetary systems. Many more of these events are occuring in zillions of material universes in the material sky which is only 25% of the total creation and above and beyond this is the unlimited ever expanding spiritual sky where time is absent. Lord Ananta through his zillions of hooded mouth for zillions of years have been speaking the Vedas and still it is not finished. Now who on earth with their tiny brain can fathom this? What I have said above is only a very small summation but it is enough to make my point that at present time on our planet we do not have a suitable method to establish a Vedic Timeline. The Vedas are desending knowledge meant for as a hearing process passed down as is by a Guru Parampara. There cannot be any interpretation nor there can be any alteration. Nobody is qualified to change anything all we can do is hear and repeat. I hope this information is helpful. All glories to Srila Prabhupada the most sublime tutor of our age who have distributed knowledge freely. YS Ashokamrita. [MODERATOR NOTE: The original request was for a timeline discussing the order of various events, and I know for a fact that devotees have put them together before. I'm fairly certain it was done in a Back to Godhead issue some 2-3 years back. The issue is not about measuring the length and breadth of Vedic knowledge; this was not the original question. But it is correct that some events took place in previous kalpas, and this should be considered before one attempts to put together a timeline. - K ]
