Unfortunately the reply he wrote got deleted from my pc. i will however write the contents of the mail. All the festivals of appearance of Lord Krishna has to be observed with a 24 hour fast. But we generally observe fasting till the time of appearance of the particular avatar, like, till sunset for nrisimha chaturdasi, till moon rise for gaur purnima, till midnight for janmashtami etc. and then take anukalpa prasadam in order to maintain the fasting. since janmashtami and gaur purnima are the main festivals for the gaudiya vaishnavas we observe this fasting with non-grain prasadam for 24 hrs. it is optional for us(depending on the level of austerity that we want to undertake) to observe fasting with anukalpa prasadam on other days of appearance of Lord Krishna like nrisimha chaturdasi or rama navami etc. ys, radha rati devi dasi.
