Guest guest
> May I humbly ask about his verse BHAGAVAD-GITA 6:41. Does the practicing > yogi take birth in a Brahmana Family or is it a Brahman Initiated > Vaisnava.....as quoted in the posting 426 (brahmana vaisnava)?. What do you mean by a "Brahman Initiated Vaisnava?" I would appreciate clarification. All that is said in the purport is, "After prolonged life there, one is sent back again to this planet, to take birth in the family of a righteous brahmana vaisnava or of aristocratic merchants." I presume the "merchant" is not necessarily Vaishnava... having some wealth may be favorable for spiritual life if one can spend time in spiritual pursuits that would otherwise be spent in survival. > Are the Pandava's Brahman by Birth or are they Brahman Vaisnava ? Paandavas were born into a kshatriya family and raised as kshatriyas. Therefore, from a material perspective, they are kshatriyas. I say "material perspective," because devotees should naturally see them as devotees first and foremost. We know from Srila Prabhupada's purports in Bhagavad-Giitaa that Arjuna exhibited many brahminical traits (such as in his willingness to renounce the battlefield, be nonviolent, etc). Nevertheless, Arjuna's position was that of a kshatriya. There was no question of him abandoning this dharma for that of a Brahmin, even though he had already acquired those kinds of qualities. > My reason for asking these questions is, because I have observed during my > 14 year assiociation with ISKCON, that all too frequently at certian > lectures the "Brahmanical Class" is seen with negativity and down trodden. > We criticise the Caste Brahmana because he/she may not be following the > rules and regulations. Is this a correct attitude from us Brahman > Vaisnava's ? Even among devotees, there are many who do not follow the regulative principles. Are we in such a position to criticize? I think a safe approach is to criticize the undesireable practice, rather than criticizing a whole class of people because some or most of them engage in a certain practice. Not all Brahmins in India are so fallen. We have to be careful. Yours, - K

Some speakers unfortunately focus much of their classes speaking bad about the brahmanical class, not realizing that their class is not doing good to any one, and in particular their loose statements have the potential to scare away their congregation for once and all. These speakers should realize that not all people born in Brahminical class are devoid of spiritual knowledge and practice, although they may not agree to all aspects of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. I often ask some of these speakers, "How many of the Brahminical initiated devotees in ISKCON have all the qualities of a Brahmin?".

I've never seen such a list and to compile it would be quite a job. Madhava, why not get a copy of Vedabase and make such a list yourself? To get Vedabase please contact Ekanath Prabhu who I've added as a receiver here. dasa, BVS ----------------------- To from this mailing list, send an email to: BVKS.Sanga-Owner
