In the Siksastaka prayer (given below), should we read as 'na sundarim' or 'na

sundarim kavitam'? because when the former is accepted it means beautiful women

as translated below, but when the latter is accepted, it means beautiful poetry.

I have a book titled Siksastaka and in that Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathi

uses the latter translation, i.e. beautiful poetry. Any thoughts? Should we

accept both meanings or the latter?

in your service,

Aravind.

na dhanam na janam na sundarimkavitam va jagad-isa kamayemama janmani

janmanisvarebhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi

O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire

beautiful women nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your

causeless devotional service, birth after birth

Obviously, if the acaryas so interpret it, then that's fine. It seems that

either one, or both of these meanings, is acceptable. In the ninth canto, Srila

Prabhupada quotes the verse as follows:

"O Lord of the universe, I do not desire material wealth, materialistic

followers, a beautiful wife or fruitive activities described in flowery

language. All I want, life after life, is unmotivated devotional service to

You."

I've also seen it is, "beautiful women, as described in choice poetry."
