Guest guest
I'm trying to find a succinct definition of philosophy that is useful to distinguish it from the Western brand. Here's an attempt and I request the insights of others. In standard usage philosophy refers to speculative lucubrations with no fixed basis. However, the Vedic philosophical ethos is so incongruent with that of the West that the English word philosophy is inept to describe it. Philosophy in Vedic terms means to understand and describe the Absolute Truth in terms of knowledge received from sastra through the system of guru-parampara. The Sanskrit word usually considered the equivalent of philosophy is darsana, "seeing," which Vaisnavas understand as an indispensible aid given by the Lord so that his devotee may see Him. Swamiji hare krishna In my opinion i will suggest you to look at the following words of Srila Saraswati Prabhupada: "Real knowledge is nothing but knowledge of one's relationship to the Absolute. Real knowledge is identical with the knowledge of subjective natures of cit (animate), acit (inanimate) and Krsna and of their mutual relationship." [brahma Samhita Text 58 Commentary] Practical realization of this is, what constitutes philosophy. Just food for thought. Your Servant Always, Sumeet.
